Ask and You Shall Receive

It was the Wednesday before last that the Christmas roster came out. Ages ago the house elves were asked to fill in a list stating availability and preferences. Since the Izzie usually works Tuesdays, requested 7-1 as it would not greatly interfere with our plans for the day. So was most peeved indeed to discover that we'd been dumped with a 3-9 afternoon shift. Just perfect for ruining our day. Indulges in a pity party thinking that they've done the usual thing of giving Izzie the crap shifts that no one else wants at Christmas. And of course - no one would be interested in swapping a morning shift for an afternoon on Christmas Day
This basically ruined what was otherwise a very good day at work and then spent the next few days brooding over this total unfairness. But then had the bright idea of making the best of a bad lot of trying to get one of the 5-9's to swap. At least starting at 5pm would make lunch a bit longer and a lot boozier.
But after more thinking, on Monday simply asked the boss why we had been given a 3-9 after requesting a 7-1 and believing that such a request was rather reasonable considering that we'd worked the last 5 Christmas Days.
She replied that she thought that she'd given everyone their preference and said she'd look into it
Figured that this was just a bit of fobbing off as this lady has the habit of trying to keep everyone happy - which is an impossible task - so it usually ends up that the folks who make the biggest fuss get looked after and those who don't get forgotten
But the very next day, there was a big white blob on the spot where 3-9 used to be and she'd found one of the overseas students who was happy to do the shift
So Izzie is one happy happy serpent and finally gets a proper Christmas after five years of house elf servitude. But it could so so easily have been otherwise. All it needed was to ask instead of to assume
So will get to go to munchies with the ma and hopefully also to see the full moon rising.
What a difference a day makes
