Your composition books sound rather like a "Bullet journal" which is a sort of DIY diary for folks who don't like the usual day planners. I'm too lazy to do that even though I recently did a book binding course and made several books from scratch that would work quite well as a day planner. It's too easy to just resurrect an unused diary (got in the bargain bin) from the relevant year from the past. It's knowing which are the right ones that is the trick. Next year I'll be dusting off an old one from 2006 and it will match perfectly.
The whole Moleskine thing is a bit of cult. Here in Oz they charge more than $30 for the A4 or A5 diaries and that's a week to a page! Some suckers out there with more dollars than sense must be buying them. Of course it is nice to have a diary that actually lasts the whole year without falling apart and has a removable address book so you don't have to keep reinventing the wheel. But not at that ridiculous price. Especially as they are made in China just like everything else these days.
I got to thinking that I should have got more than 2 of the little A6 diaries since they are the perfect size for pocket notebooks. It looks like other folks were thinking the same thing as they were all gone when I returned the next day.
I'm wishing I had used a Moleskine notebook for the little green Book of Days which is where I write all the 3 month, 1 year and 5 year plans which I update at the solstices and equinoxes. It is fascinating to look back over the old ones. It is astonishing how often things get accomplished almost accidently simply by unleashing the inner serpent subconscious mind onto them.
The little green notebook is falling to pieces. It has enough room for another year in it and then I will go to a great deal more trouble to choose a new one that will last at least five years. This week's stash could come in handy.
