Back in the Land of the Living

I have been pretty much missing in action in Dreamwidth land since November. So many distractions but the biggest and baddest of all were those infernal damned Dementors who turned up on Wednesday 30th October and only just left this week. Thank God because Christmas in their company would have been just unbearable
Vernon Dursley sent them but that is a long tale best left for a later date.

There has been heat waves where we had 6 days in a row where the temperature got to 38 celsius and 2 of those it went over 40. When that happens it also means that it does not cool down at night. Often the minimum temperature was 25 which makes it very difficult to get a good nights sleep especially as I do not have air-conditioning in the Lair

The Big Mac does not like such heat either so I had it turned off for pretty much the best part of 10 days. So that distraction was not on the menu

So I was tired, miserable, irritable and worst of all - almost totally brain dead.
Even the garden offered no joy as such weather does dreadful things to weeds and even watering every day is not a guarantee that they will not just keel over and kark it

The weather here has been gorgeous since Wednesday. Mild but not muggy and with lovely crisp and crunchy breezes that clear the cobwebs out of your ears.
Over east is literally hell on earth. Bushfires are terrible at any time but for some reason when bad things happen around Christmas it is always so much worse.
There must be thousands of people who have lost their houses to the fires in the last few months. Some of the volunteer fire fighters even lost their lives. It was heartbreaking to see the pictures of them in the paper with their kids who are not even a year old.
And it is not even January yet.

It was the summer solstice today and I had originally planned to go watch the sunset by the beach but chickened out because it would mean not being back home before 9.30 and there is so much stuff to catch up on since Christmas is coming and the Dementors have departed. All the stuff that got neglected because I was too brain dead or tired or often both.
It is so so good to finally have my brain back. I can now think happy thoughts and blue skies.

It will be back up to 38 for Christmas Day itself which basically trashes my original plan of a grave yard picnic with Petunia.

I was in Officeworks this afternoon drooling over all the productivity porn. So many bright and shiny new 2020 diaries. So many blank pages and so much potential

I resurrected an old diary from 1987 which will work just fine once the pesky months of January and February are over. I am sure there are a few old diaries from 2015 lurking around that I can also use. I have definitely noticed that things are much more likely to get done if I have written them down the day before.

The Scrooge calendar trick is a wonderful way of getting really swanky diaries for next to nothing in March or April and then just dusting them off when the relevant year rolls around.

I still cannot believe that the ever so pretty year 2020 is just over 10 days away.
That means it’s time for the annual year in review list and I am sure there must be a few more out there marking the end of the decade. I would rather not even think about that. Who knows where all the time goes.
