There's something special about the winter. Something very alluring in feeling all warm and cozy when the world around you is cold and wet. Maybe it enforces the sense of "self" and security and connection to yourself. In summer, you feel that the world is invading you and there's no escape, even if you dress as little as possible, whenever you're exposed to the outside, it's trying to dissolve you - while at winter, it's easy to stay protected with extra layers of clothing. I also hate the bright blue sky - it reminds me on the windows desktop and the Blue Screen of Death :P
The snow is an extra winter bonus, especially when it's falling, there's nothing more beautiful and magical. Why every landscape, no matter how ugly it's normally, looks beautiful when covered with snow ? It's no wonder that the New Year is celebrated in winter - when everything looks clean and white and perfect, it's easy to feel like "starting anew" and making the resolutions to change your life for better. Of course it only works in the western countries. Here in Jerusalem the snow is a rare treat - maybe 2-3 times a year :(
