Izzie finally slinks back to her new abode. Turned out to be a most wet, windy and miserable day indeed. Had all the intentions in the world of getting back to the Maritime museum which we visited on Sunday. It would most likely still be offering free entry due to half of the displays being unavailable. But it was such a nasty day that we felt like doing little other than gobbling feral food at the Juicy Beetroot Cafe before pottering offf to a cafe to catch up on the papers and latest gloom and doom.

Enroute, dropped by the two bookstores that are directly opposite each other to enquire which one had the most freebies for customers preordering the Potter book. They were both charging the same price $$29.95 which is very reasonable for a hard back book of that size (Izzie normally never buys hardback fiction books but then again, these ain't any old fiction books)
So we figures that the chances of waiting any longer for a better deal have to be weighed against the possibility of getting too close to the release date and the bookshops having already placed their orders.

The big attraction of the first shop of having one book as a prize for the best Potter character costume and another as a prize draw chosen from preorders was of little use to Izzie when it was all taking place at 6.55 am. The other bookshop was offering a $$5 voucher to be used for buying childrens' books with a value of over $$25 and free entry to a draw with the first prize being a trip to England to do the “Potter Pilgrimage” visiting various sites used in the movie and stuff.

But the big snag was that they were not doing pre-Orders but pre-Purchases. Little buggers get their paws on free finance for five weeks or so or even longer for the real die hards who would have booked the day the release date was announced. They are claiming that there is still five weeks to go but they have already used more than one quarter of their allocation on prepurchases so therefore only people who pay the full amount (rather than just a deposit) are guaranteed to get their paws on their Preciousss.
Turns out that this sob story was verified in the daily paper. Prebookings are apparently at a much higher level than back in 2003.
They also claimed that they are paying $$27 for their copies. Not much in it for them at all then – especially in the light of all the extra security and having to open two hours earlier than usual.
Well, against her Goblin instincts, the Izzie did prepay and especially requested the grown ups version with that mysterious and rather ancient potions book on the cover. The mainstream UK cover is just too damned awful. The American one is nice but we don't get that one down here in the colonies.

Izzie told them that she would have liked to buy from the other store in order to enter the competitions but that it was too early for us to get there and added that it would be nice if they would do something like that but a bit later. They said that since they would be open anyway, they might consider it as a possibility (was trying to give them the hint that when the book is the same everywhere, it's offering such interesting extras that may make the difference when it comes to snatching customers)

Still a bit peeved that we cannot get there any earlier than 7.30 unless we go on our broomstick (and Izzie is just a bit too lazy to fly ten kilometres or so – especially since we would have to do it twice and doing the return trip would mean no bottlies. Izzie doesn't drink and fly.
The only thing left now is to hope that there is no stuff ups with paperwork at our day job since it was the recently departed Teresa who had approved our request for the day off way back in March.
