God he is such a hypocrite. I count myself lucky that I never met him at uni. He was at Sydney Uni in the late '70's around the same time I was there. Being a science student we had no time for student politics, we worked 8am to 5 pm most days, unlike Arts and Law students.
The problem is that there are not too many journalists of any ilk that seem to be prepared to question any of his statements. They just accept the Coalition's statements at face value in the interest of 'balance' even when they are spouting nonsense and the 'opposing' side is dealing with facts ie climate change, etc. And if anyone (usually from the ABC) calls them out they are accused of being a Labor stooge.
I liked an example of this yesterday concerning the NBN that was pointed out in response to Media Watch's Jonathan Holmes berating an ABC journalist for lack of balance in a blog supporting the NBN -
