Last Thursday I got a nasty Howler from Twitter telling me that my account was locked for violating the Twitter Rules.
"Specifically for:
Violating our rules against hateful conduct.
You may not promote violence against, threaten, or harass other people on the basis of race, ethnicity, national origin, sexual orientation, gender, gender identity, religious affiliation, age, disability, or serious disease. "
So there were 2 choices. Remove the offending tweet immediately in order to be let back in or to appeal their decision
For reasons explained in earlier posts, I chose to appeal although I did suspect that the whole procedure appeared suspiciously like a mere window dressing exercise. Like a tyrannical regime with a very progressive constitution full of platitudes but more honored in the breach than in the observance
So this is the reply that the Twitter Police sent
Thanks!
Your request has been submitted to Twitter. We are usually able to respond within a few days, but some issues may take longer.
Please check your email inbox for an email from Twitter Support. If you don't see one, try checking your email's spam and trash folders.
So I figured that I would give them the benefit of the doubt and in the meantime would take advantage of twitter jail time to do some digital detox, What's App chats and assorted offline sorting, watering of weeds and other offline activities
I knew of course that it was a pointless exercise checking email boxes for a reply to my appeal. Even going to the bother of looking in spam and the trash cans as they suggested/ But I had to go through the motions to prove to my own satisfaction that they are NOT acting in good faith
Always nothing but today for a brief moment I was able to potter around in Twitterland for about 5 minutes. I hopped from the home page to serpent tweets and notifications where I seen that that evil tweet had gotten 2 likes. So maybe the twits had seen reason at last. But something was rather strange. All the posts were more than 6 days old along with any notifications. Tried on a different browser and could get nothing at all. In fact, it was not just Twitter but everything. I guess I had found myself in a wifi Dead Zone.
Later I tried again and it was back to the usual big fat WALL and the red nuclear button.
So the twits never did reply to my appeal and tomorrow is the end of the week in Twitter jail. They won in the end but I am still happy that the serpent twitter addiction proved to be weaker than will power.
I wonder how long it will take after nuking the tweet before I get let out of solitary confinement.
I do know one thing. Tomorrow evening I will be composing and posting a complaint about the hate filled tweet that inspired the reply that got me in the virtual slammer.
Of course I could not check during the last week if the original is still there. If there is any justice in Twiterland it won't be for much longer.
