I have a feeling with how irresponsible he and his inner circle have been, he has (luckily for him, unlucky for us) already gotten it and was an asymptomatic case, and will never experience the karmic retribution for his mishandling of the crisis and continue to believe it's not that big of a deal.
The rightwingers aren't even trying to pretend they're fair and equitable anymore. To them, "freedom" means anything they want to do at any point to any extent, regardless of who it impacts. Others can and should die for their "freedom" and no one can argue with them to the contrary. They feel no responsibility in combination with their privileges.
How does a teacher even begin to convince kids to be law abiding citizens when they see such appalling double standards every single day? It's fucking hard, for sure. And they see those double standards-- though at least most of my kiddos don't consider the president admirable or inspirational in any way. It's especially depressing how quickly that sinks in for my students who are POC; there is an element of recognizing that they have to keep their nose clean and essentially "please" (or not offend) particular forms of authority that will not grant them the benefit of the doubt, ever, even if it does for others. But then that's not about ethics and morality so much as survival.
