The Preciousssssss
23/06/2003 09:49 pmIzzie decided to pop this ickle squiggle here too since not all our friends lurk in the dungeons these days. A bit late of course but the goblins had been keeping Iz busy.
Izzie's got the Precioussssss!
Unbelievable...an ancient serpent such as myself...for the first time ever, buying a fiction book brand new, in hard back and on the very first day of release...first 15 minutes actually!
The book shop Iz ordered it from was selling it at 2/3 the recommended retail price so that was a pleasant surprise and they also threw in a free copy of the 'So you think you know Harry Potter?' Quiz book for the early birds. We got the books in horrid brown bags with a picture of glasses and 'I got Harry in the bag' written on them.
The bookstore at the other end of the street were charging 5 silver sickles more but had the most absolutely gorgeous carry bags with black handles and a picture of the book saying 'I bought my copy of.... on 21 June 2003'
Izzie was a bit miffed....it was so classy but not worth paying more just to get a nicer bag. But then had the inspiration of asking a few potterholics if they were interested in swapping their bag for mine and getting the quiz book thrown in.
Izzie was not particularly interested in the quiz book. Third time lucky...got the best bag and the cheapest book. One happy little serpent.
But Iz was not just going to sit on benches outside the book shops like everyone else to get an instant fix for those Potter cravings. One must have proper ceremonies and rituals. So three hours later... still have not taken an itsie peek...we arrive at St Brutus....an arts centre and museum that used to be a lunatic asylum. (One of Izzie's very special places)
Izzie gets the official stamp of St B on her book and buys a postcard of the place .... also rubber stamped as a book mark. After then writing a couple squiggles on the first blank page with the green fountain pen.. next ritual is a coffee and copious quantities of Lindt 70% dark chocolate (Just in case those rumours are true)
And then..... the glorious moment of turning the pages to the very first sentence.
That was later followed by the wine, bread and cheese picnic with Izzie's two guests of honour (Wormtail and Nagini) and a toast to the Great White Witch of the North.
Oh...they are not real. Wormtail is my fluffy little rat that I got in a bookshop among the Potter stuff and Nagini is a rubber snake. Nagini gets to sit in the bag with the book. Serpents and Phoenixes make such good company.
SSSSSSorry folks... I know it is too late for some people now but it was only later when I realized this link contains spoilers and I did not post a warning. Before I was able to get back to fix it, the damage had been done. So if you have not finished the book.... do not go near the link below. The worst thing of all was that I had also accidently stumbled into one of the biggest spoilers and was quite upset about finding out before reading it myself. I made a conscious effort not to reveal it or anything else of importance and then manage to do it anyway by an act of simple carelessness.
Izzie has got as far as chapter 10 but must now put the Precioussss away until Tuesday when those nasty exams are finally over.
Oh....and some interesting folks share some Izzie interests... I am sssssso looking forward to meeting Dolores the Dementor
