Picnic at Sirius Strand
20/11/2003 09:54 pmIzzie is a bit dazed and confused. Unlike normal creatures the Izzie weekend does not start on Saturday or even Friday evening but on Thursday. But not today. Being such a nice amicable generous soul, Iz agreed to swap with one of the house elves her Wednesday for my Thursday. (Was thinking of python munchies at the zoo)
So I am a bit more muddled up than usual.
Of course, had to take advantage of this chance to see my slithery friends feasting. Let's hope we are in luck this time, not like the last Wednesday was at the zoo and even dragged along the ma and there was not a mousie to be seen in the snakepit.
Well - Iz has finally decoded Zoospeak. The daily reptile keeper creature feature at 11.15 am has a few conditional clauses. If and only if Megan is doing the talks on Wednesdays, do we get the mice. On Fridays she feeds the froggies and lizards with crickets and cockroaches.
Turns out that Megan was yet again NOT there on Wednesday. She is the cutest quirkiest wickedest keeper imaginable. Has an evil twinkle in her eye as she informs us that serpents consider kids to be an excellent source of nutrition - especially noisy nasty ones who bang on the glass and try to pat the pythons on the head (at the touchie feelie python patting sessions)
You just gotta love a zoo where a Koala is called Medusa and the reticulated Python is called Cuddles!
Cuddles was particulary photogenic on Wednesday. Normally curls up in spiral and snoozes but yesterday did something that Iz last seen two years ago and dreams of seeing again. The dearest darling poked its head up to the glass, stuck out that forked little tongue, gave Izzie a big serpentine stare and then a big fat enormous YAWN.
So today, Iz did not get to snooze but toddle off to work for 7 am. Had the best of intentions to spend the afternoon in the garden, but the sun was shining, it was a glorious day and Iz could hear the wind and waves calling and of course the last 3 chapters of Azkaban which of course I can read no where else but at the beach. The same beach where I have finished reading it the very first time and the other three times since then. And why should I depart from such a nice tradition?
Wormtail, Nagini and the usual picnic provisions were at hand while Iz sipped the obligatory glass of red while watching the sunset and then reading the last few chapters of this wonderful wonderful book. And then watching the waves - reminded me of Pruffie's little adventures a few months ago when finishing book 5.
It was so strange reading the last few pages almost in the dark. Especially amusing as I tried reading the first book for the first time, sitting by Petunia's pool under the light of the full moon back in November 2001. In the end just slinked into the sack and resorted to cheating with muggle electrical light!
Unfortunately there have been dramatic changes to the Floo network. The old ritual of getting the beach bus straight through to the Min of Fin is now a thing of the past. The bus route has been split but not co-ordinated for creatures like meeee. It pulls in to the station one minute after the Min of Fin bus leaves. So Iz gets to catch the bus home instead and visit the nasty net cafe instead of the fast and free min of fin computers. So it's now either the beach or Cyberia but not both anymore.
(Iz feels another unforgivable curse coming on)
Must be off on the broomstick. There are comments to be posted in the Chamber of Secrets.
