izmeina: smiling serpent (zmeya)
A very quick Izzie squiggle. It is just past midnight and ickle Iz needs to go home and listen to a bit more of the "Prisoner of Azkaban" CD which the nasty sneakses in the library insist on being returned by Friday. Got up to the Quidditch final and am amazed to think that apart from it being exceedingly vicious, Iz hardly remembers the details. Stephen Fry does a wonderful Malfoy and a pretty good Sybil but his posh accent is exceedingly annoying. Iz keeps falling asleep half the time. Shame as it is one of the favorite Izzie books ever.

Tomorrow is the day the Goblins really get nasty. Iz finally gets to do that awful auditing unit that she chickened out of last term because she wanted to have a life. But the days of delay are over and all the best of intentions of being a Hermione over the holidays and learning the text books backwards did not eventualize.

I paid the last instalment of the Goblin fees on Friday. This Friday is the last day to pay if you want to get the 25% discount. Cheated of course and tossed in an extra 500 silver sickles. Was so so nice for 3 or 4 weeks not to be counting the pennies.
Today got one of our text books second hand and sure do hope that I get the grant application for text books which is worth $$150. There is 400 of them up for grabs and closing day was today. The list will be up on Monday. Iz has only 100 left of that extra 500 I withdrew for books and have only bought one so have obviously been very very naughty. Bottlies and bags of sheep shit are among some of the Izzie acquisitions.

When I had more time than money, used to borrow the previous editions of text books from the library and then just photocopy the questions for weekly assignments. So so many text books hardly change at all between editions EXCEPT the questions at the end so that they can scare the students into parting with ridiculous sums of money to get the latest and greatest edition. But when both time and money are in short supply, it becomes more important to actually possess a copy instead of having to visit the library restricted section or risk getting a recall on the previous edition that you borrowed - being such a cheapskate and all.

Will now have to spend most of that online pottering time keeping the goblins happy, especially as that evil auditing unit mob demand weekly assignments be TYPED. Most units expect essays and stuff to be typed of course but anything done on a weekly basis can usually be hand written and sometimes they insist on it. (Makes cut and paste a bit less attractive)
A lot of weekly accounting assignments are designed with the intention that they are given very little percentage of the unit mark and are marked for attempting to do them rather than getting the stuff right. Spending 6 hours on stuff that is only worth one mark seems pretty pointless but it is silly to look at it that way. Actually doing the stuff is the only way that you learn it and folks who don't do the weekly assignments are invariably those who fail or do very badly in exams. I guess it is just a bit of psychology. People tend not to do stuff unless they have to, even when it is actually in their own best interests to do so. The urgent will invariably take precedence over the important.

Is nice to always find one unit that is based on continuous assessment rather than exams. Iz is much more a hedgehog than a hare. Slow and steady gets there in the end.
Already got the dates for some major essays and stuff so must now find some way of avoiding temptation.

Oh and one of our lecturers today told us of the evil scheme used as an alternative to job interviews by some dreadfully devious employers. Must get back to that later. One of these events in on Monday 15 but yet again Iz can't go because I need rather more than 10 days notice to get time off at the house elf job.
