Izzie was a happy serpent yesterday. It was a gorgeous day and even work was pretty good. Got home, scrubbed the scales and then headed off on the bus on a mission.

The evil nasty lecturers in one of the Izzie subjects "Ethics in Business" decided to change the text book which Iz had got from the library. Finally got around to peeking for the latest one in the library only to discover that there is the grand total of TWO copies - neither of which is in the Restricted Section and there is fifty or so students doing this subject. These folks are always coming up with the sneakiest of schemes to get students forking out their hard earned silver sickles over to the mobsters in the University bookstore.

But Izzie came up with the inspiration of snooping the online catalogues of the other universities with which we have reciprocal borrowing rights. And sure enough - found four copies in the first one Iz tried. It must have been two years since being last over there and had almost forgotten about it. For at least two subjects in the past, was able to get the required textbook there and renew it at the end of each six week period without ever having the thing recalled. In recent years was able to get the book shop grants for poor church mouse students so did not have to be so devious and resourceful in getting textbooks on the cheap.

Enroute to this library, Iz pottered into town into a little arcade full of all sorts of evil temptations. Having passed the same place on the way to the bus on Saturday, saw something that stopped the Iz dead in her tracks. A pink fluffy cardigan and black and pink hair bows belonging to a reallly rather cute white teddy bear. Bad Izzie went in there on Monday and did not bother to put her on layby but took home her dearest Dolores straight away.

Iz was looking forward to concluding a pretty productive and sunny day with a bit of online lurking and squiggling in Cyberia at the Min. But the evil goblins have been farting around with the firewalls and the computer terminals that were perfectly civilized on Sunday would not let the ickle Iz do Anything online -not even a visit to Google for purely academic purposes
So after forty fruitless minutes of pottering from one lab to another, Iz just got peeved beyond endurance and instead popped over to the nasty netcafe where she had only about 30 mins or so paid time left.

Izzie doesn't know what it is - there is something about public phones and computers that are not working that induces a most irrational and murderous rage in this normally docile serpent. You can't reason with the buggers and they always have the last word.

At least today, Iz was half expecting to get the same crap so would not have been disappointed. In fact it was a relief to be able to finally get past Google without having the online access password constantly rejected.

Today was just as sunny and nice as yesterday but instead of lurking in libraries, Iz decided to go for a snooze outside in the sun under the orange tree. The 60 minute snooze was so lovely that it got extended for another hour or so before finally getting the bus down to the river and the usual caffeine laden haunts. One happy puzzle junkie got herself yet another free coffee and spent the time catching up on the papers, squiggling in the ickle green diary and even reading that rather fascinating text book. One thing to be said for this book - especially when I didn't have to pay for it is that it is a small pocket sized little number that does not need its own backpack like most course textbooks.
In the papers was an interesting story about the latest in 'reality' tv shows. Izzie just loved the story about "Amish in the City" - especially their fascination with parking meters. Iz just could not help but think of Arthur Weasley and his collection of plugs or Harry Potter's first trip down Diagon Alley looking in wonder and amazement at all the strange things that the Wizarding World took so for granted.

After a weekend of pottering around teddybear shops, science engineering events and displays, wine tastings and libraries, Iz felt like a kid let loose in a toy shop and once again confirmed her belief that if the Iz should ever win lotto or become a rich bitch, that the charitable cause most dear to the Izzie's heart would be libraries of any sort. Libraries have always been Izzie's favorite form of escapism, adventure and education and even now that the Iz is actually paying for some of them (The council rates are due at the end of August) Iz still thinks that they are the best value for money investment that she has ever been involved in (up there with the 12 month annual Zoo membership)
A town without a library is a most soulless place indeed.
