Ponderings on the Pensieve
31/08/2004 10:19 pmIzzie slinks into the Ministry, places her paws on her Portkey to Cyberia and finds herself in a dark and doomy graveyard. Yesssss. Not only has the Dragon disapparated from Ujournal, but everyone else too including this ickle emerald serpent. Looks like rather a few blogs have ended up in the Cyberian Cemetary and Iz wonders what the chances are of Livejournal joining them.
Izzie is eternally grateful to
kaasirpent for introducing Iz to the delightfully quick and simple lj archive program. Iz is getting a bit geekish. Since she does not have her own personal computer, has come up with the evil inspiration of using geekmail as cheap and easily accesible storage. Unfortunately Iz can only access it on computers with nasty .NET so that means only at the ma's place on Sunday nights. And lately that little bugger has been throwing tantrums and tossing the blue screen of death at the Iz for no apparent reason at all. Maybe it too has caught some nasty bug.
It's funny. So many folks have home videos and piles and piles of photo albums. This mysterious serpent is suspiciously averse to preserving her green scaly self in such form and also finds that the picture taking obsession often leaves people in a state of viewing a holiday as simply an opportunity to pose for the camera and spending hours getting just the right shot instead of actually looking at the sunset or smelling the roses. Izzie almost suspects that these folks don't ever experience their holidays until they return home and watch it on the video or download their picture files or whatever technophiles do these days with images.
Ickle Izzie is not the least bit interested in serpent snaps but is an irresistable hoarder of squiggles. In the case of looking back to the past, Iz is convinced that a word paints a thousand pictures. You can tell much more about some one by lurking in their journals than looking at a collection of photos.
So Iz was relieved that she rescued the first four months or so of uj entries and saved them as web archive pages back in May after discovering that they were so desperate for money in UJ land that they were going to resort to advertising. Iz has seen enough of that crap over in geocities and will only visit geocities websites in an act of utter desperation. We hates the nasty stinking things.
So Iz has resurrected her green leaf spiral icon for this post. Seemed most appropriate as it was the user pic that Iz used over there. Freeloaders like Iz only got ONE pic not like the three we used to have over here. Is it still 3?
Other news of the day. Izzie has found herself a new spot for moon watching or rather has decided that an old one does have many advantages. It does not have 360 degree views of the horizon which is the main attraction of Monument Hill - the usual Izzie moonshine haunt. So it is not possible to watch the sun go down and the moon rise in the same place but to compensate, it does have a gorgeous backdrop of the river and city lights and is only 30 mins away from the Izzie lair and not two buses and 75 mins like the other place is at night time when the buses run less frequently. This time of year the moon now rises over the river and not behind it. And for some reason it also looks much much bigger too. It was very pretty seeing the big yellow reflection in the water. So Iz might be most tempted to save the windy hills for April to July or August or on days when Iz has all day to go pottering around the place. It was so so cold and windy there yesterday. This lovely place by the river has oodles of park benches, tables and barbecues. Unfortunately the Izzie cupboard was bare so we just sat on a bench and enjoyed the view and did not have another moonshine picnic. Had one yesterday so cannot be too decadent. But it's horrid having pay day tomorrow and not being able to toast to Izzie's favorite big fat yellow ball of cheese and her favorite rat.
Tomorrow Iz will have to be a good serpent and draw up a proper plan and stick to it. As of next Tuesday, got two weeks holidays from house elf slavery and the Iz has just got to get a proper head start on that nasty goblin assignment due for 24 September. Will also need to start on the stupid business ethics essay which does not even have a proper question for its subject - just a bunch of stupid statements to discuss that are pretty much unrelated.
We also must get back to eating a civilized diet - all those green and brown things that the Iz used to eat so much before she got into bad and lazy habits.
Iz must start eating fruit and vegetables instead of lots of bread and cheese with liquidized grapes;)
Must see if we can get some blood tests at Izzie's doctor's appointment tomorrow. It is simply not normal to have sensitive ears, a sore throat and be constantly tired six weeks after catching that nasty 'elephant' bug that killed the Izzie Fairy Godmother. Another house elf at work also has the same symptoms. She lives by herself too so is hard to know is it caused by that virus or is it a result of bad diet and too much studying;)
But for the last 3 days, Iz has been feeling happy and content and not grumpy and cranky as has been the usual lately. Must be all that moonshine that is working wonders.
Izzie is eternally grateful to
