izmeina: a snippet of Escher's circle of serpents (Smilie)
Ickle Izzie is feeling ever so strange lately - up and down like a yoyo. Happy and jolly one minute and a cranky irritable batty bitch the next. It's either hormones or a sign of insanity. Or maybe its withdrawal symptoms from five years of Goblin days. No more unlimited internet access and no more borrowing library books for six weeks or quarrells with Cornelius Fudge.

Thanks to overindulging on munchies for the ma and pa - the Iz was faced with the prospect of having too many days at the end of her money. Payday is on Wednesday and we had the princely sum of ten silver sickles left on Thursday. That did not stop the Iz going to St Brutus on Thursday because we had lots of stuff from the dinner that the Iz could use for her picnic and most imporantly - some left over booze. But it did mean that there would be no shopping or cups of coffee.
Having made the decision to cheat and redraw extra funds above and beyond what the Iz is repaying the ma and pa, the question was -would it take three working days like they always say that one must allow or would it arrive the very next day like it did last time. In case of the former - the Iz would need to leave enough silver sickles to pay for her bus to hear the Christmas carols in Downtown Dursleyville on Friday evening. (and that was the reason we visited St Brutus on Thursday instead of the usual Friday)

It was a glorious day on Thursday and we had a lovely time aside from the issue of caffeine deprivation. Went home earlier than usual because of this but did snoop at some of the special Christmas stalls full of crafty and hippie sort of stuff. Iz was amazed to see some mob selling 'natural herbal products' including wormwood for a ridiculous $$9 for a bag of no more than 50g of dried herb when the stuff grows everywhere like a weed. They also had nettles and an intriguing mix called 'Viagrow' Figure that one out. But what intrigued the Iz most was walking from St Brutus to these markets and passing a terraced house with sunflowers outside. The first house had big fat juicy plants and what was so interesting was that the same plant had some pissy little weedy sunflowers but others the size of dinner plates. Izzie has a so called giant sunflower in the lair with only one single solitary flower and it's more the size of a napkin ring than a dinner plate. So it was fascinating to see so much variation in one single plant. But the house next door was even more intriguing. One of its sunflowers was in a strange state of metamorphosis. One half had bright yellow petals and that pretty spiral pattern and the other half had greenish petals folded in over the spirally bits. It was just so so bizarre and incredibly beautiful in a strange sort of way.

Iz was delighted this morning to finally see her little pumpkin seeds popping up their pretty little heads. Planted 20 or so and six of the little critters have made an appearance. Actually they are not pumpkins. Bought them on Halloween from a lady who makes painted and decorated gourds and Iz bought one packet of bottle shaped gourds and the other were hard shell gourds. But they are members of the same family as pumpkins and are even prettier - impossible as that may seem.

Iz was out in the garden this morning - admiring not just those little seedlings but her very green and fluffy The Teddy Bear TreeThinking - such a pity that we planted it so so close to the fence. It's taller than the Iz and is very soft and cuddly and would be absolutely perfect for a Christmas tree. Unfortunately - in that position - any decorations would very quickly disapparate. So the Iz has resolved to buy one and leave it in its pot and bring it inside once a year for Christmas.

Iz will simply not tolerate plastic trees and thinks that buying a real one is dreadfully wasteful since no one here ever uses them for firewood but just throws them in the rubbish collection. And pine trees are well just so Northern European. Our local woolly bush is just perfect for a Christmas tree and if the Iz gets herself organized - will finally have her own Aussie Christmas tree for next year. As an added bonus it comes with its own decorations - very pretty little red flowers.
