Serpentine Snippets and Rodent Rants
13/02/2005 01:55 pmThe Izzie must watch the clock in her new online abode. We got just under three hours to last until Tuesday but got to be good because pay day is on Wednesday so we will only be buying 3 hours this week which will have to last until the next Tuesday top up.
Iz came home on Monday after that nasty nine hour shift at work and managed about twenty minutes of online pottering before returning home to a very rich and inky bottle of Wynns Cabernet.
It was very nice sitting outside in the garden with a glass of wine in one hand and squiggling in the little green book by the light of a very pretty green sandalwood scented candle.
Iz had the best intentions in the world of writing a rather long LJ squiggle reminiscing about the significance of this particular date in the Izzie calendar and the first impressions of our new boss which we are pleased to say are very very good indeed. But there's not much one can do online in 30 mins so Iz saved it all for the little green book.
The rest of the week was rather uneventful. More nastiness from Cherry - the resident blond blue eyed aryan Registered Nurse. Iz thinks Narcissa is an infinitely more suitable name. Or Snooty. Iz nearly had a fit of the giggles overhearing this blond thing commenting to one of the visitors on their blond blue eyed little boy that such desirable features are becoming less and less common 'on account of the melting pot'
This week the Iz had only one day off which was Friday since picking up a six hour Saturday shift from another house elf who had a 50th birthday party to attend. Izzie will be a rich little elf this Wednesday. 73 hours instead of the usual 50 or so for the fortnight.
Thursday, it was the first opportunity Iz had this week to visit downtown Dursleyville in order to replace her watch which has finally died after five years of faithful service. Felt so lost without the little gadget. But the shop where we got it and were hoping to get more of the same now no longer sells the little buggers and has gone more into computers and electronic gadgets.
Finally did find a stainless steel watch with a very pale green face in a cheap and nasty Chinese store full of kitsch and kitchen stuff. It is supposedly made in Japan. Not sure whether to believe that or not. But it cost about the same as the last one. These days you can get a watch cheaper than replacing the batteries. But Iz had always went and got a new battery because she was so fond of the old critter and it was only when it developed a ring around the edge which looked like dampness and was stopping and starting instead of staying stopped that made Iz figure that the battery was not the problem this time.
Next stop was the Digilife store for another drool over those Macs. The Iz knows what she wants now - it's now down to a choice between a 17 inch screen iMac or a 14 inch screen iBook laptop so the next thing to do is shop around and wait to get the best price. Was absolutely set on getting 'superdrive' which has both dvd and cd burners but then the Iz got to thinking - must be getting a bit confuzzled. Just trying to think of circumstances where we'd actually want to burn dvds rather than just play them. CDs of course is an entirely different matter. Just could not think of any use for the thing since the Izzzie picture gallery is virtually none existent. So the Iz does not think she can justify paying an extra 350 silver sickles for a feature that she would most likely never use.
The girl Iz was working with last night said that she was over at Megamart last week and they were selling laptops for $$1,500. She said it was a really nice compact silver one and she would have been tempted to buy it if it hadn't been a Mac. Iz was most intrigued and it's nice to know that there are more places to look. Must also peek at the Ministry's computer section upstairs in the book store. Iz never remembered seeing them there but they are listed as an Apple supplier. The best thing about that place, they just might have student discounts.
The Izzie was hoping to get around to her rant about the lying Rodent and his petty bunch of brown noses. One of the Australians who had been imprisoned in Guantanamo Bay for the last 3 years or so was recently released. In spite of all the time they kept him there, the US govt just could not come up with the goodies concerning charges so had to let him go (Iz thinks it may have something to do with a recent ruling from the US Supreme Court). But that's not good enough for these sycophantic spineless wimps who keep making nasty noises about Mamdhouh Habib still being a threat to national security. They are so petty that they are even trying to prevent him selling his story under 'proceeds of crime' legislation. As Bob Brown - just about hte only Aussie politician with any integrity has said to the effect that constant vigilance is needed not for Mr Habib but for John Howard and his lackies who are trying to undermine the rule of law and the assumption of 'innocent until proven guilty'
Prissy pants Alexander Downer has now come out and said that there is no evidence of torture going on in Guantanamo simply because Uncle Sam says so.
In spite of the govt's best efforts, Mr Habib is giving an interview on television tonight and will most likely give details of some of the less than quaint and outdated treatment that he received while there and during his 'outsourcing' in Egypt. Let's hope he sues the bastards - the Australian govt in particular. At the same time as the government washes its hands of two Australian citizens detained without trial overseas and one at home, the Rodent goes whining and pleading for death sentences to be commuted on two Australians in Singapore and Malaysia who have been convicted of smuggling heroin and other drugs. And the validity of the convictions is pretty solid too.
And now there's another case concerning unlawful detention - this time by the government itself. And yet again, nothing but excuses and whining by the government. Apologies are utterly out of the question.
Australia has truly earned itself the title "The land of the long brown nose"
