The Izzie Toys
24/02/2005 11:21 pm"Twas the night before Applemas
and all through the house,
not a creature was stirring.
Not even a mousssssse."
Yessss. In less than twenty four hours the Precioussss will be MINE. Unless the nasty Hobbitses driving the truck from Sydney decide to snatch it or get waylaid in Mordor or something or it's the unofficial "Piss off Izzie" day in the university book store.
After the official promotion of the iPod offer on Wednesday during Orientation week, it will not just be Izzie out there truck watching.
Well - the fact that the truck is supposed to arrive at lunch time and the shop closes at 4.30 on Fridays leaves lots and lots of room for the inevitable application of Murphy's Laws in their various insidious manifestations.
If we are in luck, the Izzie will pop by at 2pm so that she can test out the new gadget at the very conveniently located Kirribili Cafe right next to the book shop. No point in visiting the cafe after 3.30 because it too closes early on Fridays.
If not, will just have to wait until Wednesday - the first week of the Izzie holidays where we will have the whole day to play with the Precioussss.
Until then, the Iz has more gadgets to amuse her during the waiting time. Had a bunch of library books due back tomorrow but since we got other plans than usual for Fridays, brought them back a day early. The computers were all booked out until 3pm and Izzie was not going to waste preciousss sunshine or moonrise time lurking over a hot keyboard. But Iz just could not leave the place empty handed and ended up with a bright and colourful guide to the Mac Cats - the one in question being the Jaguar. It looks waaaay waay too pretty for the likes of Izzie's favorite feline to ever like it but is an interesting introduction to an absolute beginner like the Izzie.
But what really made the Izzie happy was a brand new copy of "Open Office for Dummies" with a CD included so Iz does not have to worry about wasting time downloading stuff from Cyberia.
Taking a quick tour through this book, the word processing package does bear a suspicious resemblence to that other Office package. So so similar on first appearances that one wonders why exactly anyone would pay $$300 for something they can get for free.
Soon we will see. Soon we will know. And there's also a graphics, html writing and spreadsheet thingie tossed in as well.
A cheapskate Goblin like Izzie is most enamoured indeed with this whole open source freebie concept. And when you can even get the guide books free, is even better indeed. Yes. The older she gets, the more convinced Izzie becomes that the one cause that has always been dearest to her heart from way back in those flobberworm days is Free public libraries. Of course, there is no such thing as a free lunch and Izzie gets a council rates bill every August to remind her of it. But long before Izzie ever paid state or federal taxes, she had access to such information and a wonderful world of books without having to spend a single precious penny.
In fact, the Iz is convinced that it was the wonderful escapism and adventures offered by books that gave her the attitude of "Why bother" to mind altering substances of a more chemical nature (with the exception of some certain delicious liquids)
But things are looking auspicious so far. For the first time after four years of full moon watching, Izzie finally got to spot the very first itsy bitsy sliver of the red moon rising as it poked its little head over the horizon. Often there's cloud or stuff, or Izzie is looking the wrong way or the damn thing is staring at her in the face and she simply cannot see it.
Most pretty it was indeed. Especially tasty with cheese, and crackers and a bad rat for company. Oh and of course - the obligatory liquid refreshment.
Full moon is also the time for Izzie to wave greetings to Sara the Rogue Badger - where ever she may be and wish her all the best in her witchy ways.
Must be off snoozies. Got to get up early for the Friday morning talk fest. Izzie will be presenting a book review about the baddest literary bitch that she has met so far. And no. She is not pink and fluffy.
So much stuff happening and so little online time. Lots of interesting things in the Garden of Arcane Delights and the Pumpkin Patch. Some good and some very sad. And we haven't even mentioned Saturday's election and referendum once in Izzie's LJ lair.
