Izzie is confused and confuddled. Once again the house elf roster is wierd and wacky. Got so so used to having Thursdays and Fridays free and after a nasty nine hours yesterday and a six hour shift this evening, the Izzie hardly knows what day it is anymore. It's particularly annoying because today was the first really gorgeous day we have had in a whole week and it would have been a glorious sunset at the beach.
It is strange how easily one can become a creature of habit and become so easily disoriented if your routine is upset.
The Izzie will have Monday and Tuesday off this week. Will have been working 8 days straight by then and today the first sneaky signs of a cold have made their miserable presence felt - that thick headed doozy sort of feeling of tiredness and like you've just had a bottle of fizzie drink up your nose. So if the bugs follow their usual course, the Izzie will have lost her voice by Sunday and be croaking like a cane toad.

The next two rosters will be Sunday and Mondays off. Not nice at all. Izzie needs the extra silver sickles that us house elves get paid on Sundays. The bright side is that one of those Sundays will be Easter and that Iz will finally get a chance after all those nine hour shifts on Mondays to stay up late and chat with cats or otherwise lurk in Cyberia.
Was so so looking forward to that this time but will not be going over because Vernon and Petunia would certainly not appreciate the Izzie bringing over her nasty bugs and viruses. So we will stay at home with the bottlies, books and the Preciousss for company.

But the good news is that this is all temporary. The new boss who does seem quite kosher and does not exude the nasty sarcastic vibes of her predecessor has created a list of blank rosters dated to the middle of May and requested all staff to write in their availability for this whole period - mornings, evenings, night shifts and requested days off etc. She aims to fill all the shifts and have a pool of people on standby to cover for sick days and annual leave etc. As far as possible she will accomodate our preferences but obviously not if 14 folks want to work Sunday mornings and no one wants Friday evenings. In that case - it will have to be 'Do it my way or hit the highway'. So far - while Iz has noticed a lot of folks wanting Mondays and Tuesdays off - and even a few rich bitches who do not want to work week ends - seems to be not many who particularly want Thursdays and Fridays off - but then at the same time - no one wants to work Friday evenings so it could get a bit tricky.
Will keep our fingers crossed and hope to keep our old Fridays free. Will be most most interesting to see what she does with Christmas. But it seems the days of the 'A team' hogging the 8 and 9 hour shifts for weekends but being totally incapable of doing anything longer than 6 hours during non public holiday weekdays will soon be over. And about time too.

Been a very very lazy serpent. In spite of buying some cards two weeks ago, the Iz never did write some emerald squiggles to her little brother whose birthday was today. It's not like we forgot -just don't seem to be able to get into the right frame of mind to write old fashioned squiggles after getting so so used to doing stuff on computers.
The Iz kept thinking for the last few weeks - 11 March - is something significant about that date - not just that it's the little brat's birthday but something else but just could not work out what it was. Yesterday, finally realized it was the first anniversary of the train bombing in Madrid. It's scary how time flies.
There has been lots of commemorations and stuff. Iz often wonders in the event of such tragedies - everyone talks about the dead - but it's often the injured who rarely get much attention who then have to continue in a living hell - with physiotherapy, burns treatments and the flashbacks and other psychological problems. And also the 'if only's' that seem so much part of human nature. Folks who had managed to get on the train at the last minute or those who missed it and were peeved that they were too late or those who did not catch the train because they had decided to take a sick day off work or whatever - it's all so arbitrary. Izzie catches trains fairly frequently so it's fairly easily to relate to what happened.
Then there was the recent suicide bombing at a funeral in Iraq. Attacking people at a funeral seems a peculiarly perverse thing to do. A bit like the people who plant bombs next to car and truck wrecks so that those who try to move the victims or their vehicles also get killed or injured.

Human beings are the strangest creatures. How they ever could be so presumptious to imagine that they are created in the image of God defies the Izzie imagination. Pompous gits.

Well - the Iz must be off on her broomstick. Seen in one of the LJ communities that we might not have to take Preciousss for walkies to download the mysterious X11 after all but that it is somewhere on the CDs that came packaged with the rest of the Preciousss munchies. So maybe the Iz will be able to get her paws on Open Office after all. Soon we will see. Soon we will know.
