Now this is a quizzie that Izzie likes
After four months of Cornelius Fudge and his School of Ethics whose idea of philosophy was to drop names and use lots of long Greek and Latin words - it was a kind of deja vu to read all these quirky questionses
The Serpent's Search for meaning )
The Iz kind of figured that existentialism would be top of the list probably followed by a close tie between Utilitarianism and Kant's Universalism so it was most surprising indeed for those epicurian tendencies to make such a prominent appearance - or maybe not.

But it did get Izzie to thinking. Was only talking about Christmas and Grinchy scroogie sorts of folks lats night at work. One of the elves who has since left was a Jehovah's Witness. It was not enough for her not to celebrate Christmas or Easter but she also had to constantly tell the rest of us how unenlightened and deviant we were for not following the One True Path - which she coincidently possessed.
"Christmas is a PAGAN festival" was her catch cry. Evil Izzie blew the wind out of her sails by replying. "Yessss. And I'm proud to be Pagan!" Izzie used to be one of those Grinches who hated Christmas. We would not go around ranting too much about how hedonistic and commercialistic it was but simply hated it. But for some inexplicable reason, the Izzie is becoming less cynical, bitter and twisted with age and now takes great joy in decking the Lair with oodles of green and silver tinsel and baubles. Easter - we used to hang up eggs and stuff - preferably on an Easter tree - but the little buggers are just so so fragile - hand painted and made from real blown out eggs that we just leave them in their egg carton.

But iconoclastic Izzie has always had a soft spot for Good Friday - not just those old Catholic masochistic tendencies (the constant obsession with how Jesus suffered rather than what he did and said, the Iz does find rather tedious and depressing) or the old gloomy doomy opportunity to dwell on the purpose of life and lurk around graveyards - but above all - it simply does not lend itself to commercialization in any shape or form. It truly is "A Buy Nothing Day"

Izzie's hedonistic adventures got somewhat thwarted today mostly due to serpent laziness. The Iz had intended to be up and about by 8am in order to catch a bus at 9am to downtown Dursleyville.
A bunch of quirky Christians - the Social Justice sort rather than the born again varieties do a sort of "Stations of the Cross" every Good Friday and it is always interesting and thought provoking.
Izzie first turned up looking for it back in 2002 only to discover that these folks don't follow the traditional 2 or 3pm time table but are up and about at 10am.
So we did make it for the following two years and had every intention being there today. After that - the usual ritual is slinking off to that gorgeous graveyard and having a little wine and cheese picnic. Last year the Izzie was broke and had to make do with grape juice. This year we were making amends with a very juicy inkpot of 2003 Taylors Shiraz.
All we had to do is toss together the nibblies and be on the way. But lying in was just so inviting. The Iz decided it was all too much of a rush and we would miss the 10am stuff and just leave at midday and visit the graveyard and lovely surrounding parklands only.

So we got as far as putting the pot of milk on for coffee when the phone rang. It was Petunia. She said something about coming over to look at a machine. Iz thought it was rather strange to be out shopping on Good Friday. Then we realized that the machine in question was the Preciousss and they were coming over to snoop and drool.
So by the time they left it was about 1.30pm. The bus services are pretty crappy on public holidays. If the Iz had not been working this afternoon at 5pm, would have simply popped on the next bus at 2pm and had a slightly belated moonshine picnic. But it made no sense to catch a bus for 2pm and arrive at the graveyard for 2.30 only to have to leave just before 4pm in order to get the bus to work.
So Iz decided to visit the netcafe instead and catch up on gossip in Cyberia.

Since it is now 3pm - and the Iz will be off to work for 5pm - will be saving the bread and wine for after work - sitting outside in the light of the full moon and maybe bringing the Preciousss out too so that we can play lots of Lisa Gerrard and the spooky gloomy doomy Sybille Catalane.
