izmeinaOn Friday I was pottering around the Trillion Trees nursery and buying some weeds to plant for the long weekend.
I did notice a tiny Tweet saying that there was a press conference from the State Premier. I figured it would have something to do with the Coronavirus but did not think any more of it.
I had my plans for the afternoon. Catching the bus to the train station, dropping into the shops next door and then catching a train to the city stopping on the way to visit a cafe.
I began to pay a bit more attention when I heard the bus driver talk to another passenger about the press conference. She said it was all one YUGE conspiracy
Because she had watched the documentary Event 201 on Youtube.
They were talking about plandemics and Bill Gates but forgot to mention George Soros. Slackers!
When I saw many people wearing masks and a long queue for the supermarket, I figured it might be time to actually check the news
So it turns out that there had been a case of community transmission of Covid from a quarantine hotel. The first one since last April.
This government mob don’t mess around. No let it rip or learning to live with the virus for them. So the announcement was for a 3 day lockdown starting at midnight and masks on public transport from 6pm.
I mistakenly understood it to also mean take away only from restaurants and cafes from 6pm too. So figured there would be no point in sticking to my cafe plan since the whole point is to lurk and read the papers and sip a proper cup of coffee not some paper take away abomination.
It turned out that the man at the centre of the fuss had come on a flight from China, tested negative on arrival and at regular intervals and also on the last day of quarantine. But it turned out that he had indeed caught it on the last day from some one else in the hotel on the same floor on the room opposite to him but did not register as positive on any tests until boarding a plane to Melbourne about a week later.
In the meantime he had been wining and dining all over the town and all those places had to be shut down.
But what was so awful was the hotel quarantine was set up as a place to keep the city safe from Covid carriers but ends up being a petri dish where it’s getting spread to travellers who didn’t even have it because they are all stuck together on the same floor in hotels with dodgy air conditioning systems, no windows that open and definitely no balconies.
Every time some one opened a door or took a lift, the airborne bugs were getting spread all over the place because none of the rooms have negative air pressure
It was a big blow to restaurants and cafes who were looking forward to a bumper long weekend.
Of course we are getting off lightly here compared to most of the world. Especially the disaster currently going on in India.
Hearing about what is going on there is like deja vu to USA last October when trump was running around the country holding his maskless mass rallies and boasting about the size of his crowds.
Nahrendra Modi not only did all that and more but in spite of seeing what has happened all over the world after large events went and allowed a once in 12 years Hindu religious festival to go ahead.
Trump ignored what happened in New York and then the whole USA became Covid Central. Modi then ignored what happened in the USA, like trump he claimed they had it all under control and now the whole country is coming to a standstill and the healthcare system is collapsing. Modi has his own personal private safety net but most other people don’t.
It turns out that he also has his own personal cult of trumPETS who sing his praises and go hounding those on social media who dare to say that their beloved Emperor has no clothes.

It’s one thing living in a dictatorship where you have no choice about what incompetent malevolent despot is ruining the joint, but people keep voting for these rabble rousers who care more for the fleece than for the flock.
