izmeina: (Don't panic)
Strange days in Izzieland. Been feasting on some very delicious radio programs. Got so so nostalgic when our usual 10pm fix of Late Night Live featured an interview with one Jimmy Sommerville. After a recent trip down memory lane after reading a post in the dungeons of Azkaban denouncing the lack of decent music in the 80s, Iz could think of oodles of damned good stuff from that decade but had totally forgotten about Bronski Beat and their offshoot - the Communards.

Then there was an interview with a woman who has written a book about death. Most fascinating indeed. Seems to be the last great taboo. Iz has been thinking about death more than usual - one of the nursing home residents died on Saturday which happened to be the first anniversary of the death of Tessie Brown who Izzie called the Cuddly Pumpkin and who was one of our most favorites residents ever. In the light of 20/20 hindsight, some things are particularly spooky. After two days off, Iz turns up to work at 4pm on Saturday afternoon. We sees a little basket in the nurses' station with Tessie's Cinderalla book and various bits of costume jewellry. Oh. Not nice at all. Izzie was most suspicious indeed. So we potters off straight to her room. She is not there and her wardrobe is empty. The first staff member we see is Sukhi. Izzie asks if Tessie has died. Sukhi refused to give a straight answer and will only say that "Tessie is not here" She is only 18 and Tessie is probably the first resident to die since she started working there so she was not yet used to such things. She just could not bring herself to say the D word. The Iz remembered all this in the last few days and could not help but think that this was the very same girl who did not go with her mother for their 3 month holiday in India because she had exams and stuff to do. So she joined the ma one month later. Her ma met her in the airport in India and they got a taxi to wherever they were staying. On the way back from the airport, the taxi was involved in a car crash. Sukhi survived but her mother did not and now she will probably spend the rest of her life blaming herself for what happened.

Then there is the car crash in Mildura where some 34 year old dickhead ploughed into a bunch of teenagers on the side of a road waiting for a taxi. Not only did he kill 6 of the poor kids but then ran from the scene of the crime. But the really sad thing - some of the bystanders said that his two kids were in the car and one of them screamed something to the effect "Daddy. What have you done?" Seems the kids had more of an idea of right and wrong than their father. Apparently now - these kids who have nothing to do with it have received death threats.

This morning there was a woman bitching about the Bratz dolls and how hard it is to buy normal clothes for 8 year old girls. Apparently, hipsters and crop tops and other such sleazy stuff seems to be standard for kids these days. The idea of 8 year old girls going on diets and wearing make up and jumping on the designer label bandwagon is truly scary. Corporate pedophilia gone mad thinks Izzie.

In the Izzie Lair, the main new thing is the well has run dry. Went to have ourselves a shower the other night. Goes to turn off the cold water tap and the damn thing goes nearly off but keeps on turning. Bugger. Looks like we've busted the washer. So, since adopting our mantra of constant vigilance - instead of launching into instant hysteria and panic mode, the Iz just coolly slinks into something black and half respectable and goes outside into the garden to turn off the mains water. That solved the problem for the short term. But now, until we get the damned thing fixed, will need to go outside to the mains anytime we want water for anything. Never realized just how much we take running water for granted. Left the bugger on long enough this evening to fill the showertub just under 1/4 because we needed to feed the Leeaky hoses a bit or our poor plantseses will die -with 39 celsius and all forecast for tomorrow. Not been touching the hot water taps at all. The last thing we want is to stuff up the gas heater as well as the washer on the cold tap in the bathroom
With a bit of luck, the pa will fix it for us. He has a rather large selection of washers all shapes and sizes and is one of those old fashioned pottering Mr Fixit sorts who is mechanically and practically minded rather than the bookish sort of creature that the Izzie is. Most lucky indeed. He was on the phone today trying to get a technician for their air conditioner which has taken to flicking the switches and blowing fuses after only five minutes online time. Some of these critters have a two to three week waiting list and the one who can get to him for Friday charges 88 silver sickles call out fee and the same per hour! Now Izzie earning the princely sum of just under $$14 per hour considers that to be uber scary.

Well. Time to slink off into the darkness. Got a Grand Rodent Glorious Tenth Anniversary party to organize for Friday 3rd March. Will invite Vernon and Petunia. Bit of a bummer that Ash Wednesday is 1st March and Petunia insists on giving up her bottlies for Lent. Izzie is too much of a pagan to submit herself to such discipline. And Wormtail would most certainly not approve - pisspot of a rat that he is.
Maybe we can do a virtual party online in the Lair of the Emerald Serpent and Izzie knows just who to send the first invitation to ;)

Izzie's favorite duckie in danger?

Calling all Izzie snoops and spies - is this a real Fatwa or just a photoshop opportunity?
