Izzie's been a busy little serpent. Yesterday was especially productive.

The grand plan was to arrive at our favorite lunatic asylum and its associated museum in time for the talk about the history of light bulbs as well as generally sniffing about, squiggling and slurping

Got there a good bit earlier so had time to do all those things as well as slink about the museum drooling over all the cool gadgets

The talk was fascinating and the Iz was especially intrigued by the usb gadget that looked like a shaver but was in fact a microscope and scanner (and God knows what else) which the presenter used to show us all the coiled coils of modern light bulbs.
But will spend more time indulging in our gadget adoration after visiting again on Friday for the "Darksuckers - A Theory of Dark" presentation

It was like being a kid in a candy store will all those old moving picture gadgets, kaleidoscopes, grammophones, the TV with the remote control (with a big fat cable attached) from 1963! and just about anything imaginable connected to light and sound

Left the museum around 3.30pm and then pottered off downtown and ventured into Elizabeths' book shop. Guess we were just looking for temptation and it did not take long to find it! Firstly a big fat juicy green book - Watson Dictionary of Weasel Words and then a quick peek in the new age section revealed a very strange but beautiful wannabee tarot set. Not 78 cards but only 36 but these were marketed as each one depicting a Jungian archetype. But also unlike normal cards all wrapped in plastic for protection - you could actually look at these. And when the Iz came across the Night Hunter - a very cool spooky black cat with a mouse in front and moon above - how could we possibly resist? And for 18 silver sickles - pretty cards and a beautiful book - it was quite reasonable indeed

And then there was on a shelf nearby - a book with the most intriguing title "Raw Meaty Bones"
Was only thinking about the voice of the vet out in the wilderness railing against McMuck for dogs and could not remember his name at all and here he is with a book. But not only a book - consulting the Oracle of Google - this shepherd is far more concerned with looking after the flock than just the fleece - so much so that his website has not only info about the book but The Entire Text too!

Oh and other tasty linkies from the same site - Mars Bars will never quite taste the same again - with or without that most unkosher rennet. Yesss. Izzie has been suspicious for a long long time by the constant bombardment of the media with all these new 'scientific' studies telling us just what a wonderful health food chocolate really is. (a bit of a worry when the ma who would never eat anything more than 40% cocoa content now regularly munches Lindt 85% bars which are too dark even by Izzie's evil demented standards)

Did not get the book yesterday but will seriously consider being tempted again tomorrow. Had already spent $$36 and felt that was enough decadence for the day. It was $$11 but being second hand - there's nothing in it for the writer but you just feel that you want to reward courageous whistle blowers - especially ones who are more concerned with getting the message out there even if it means that there's less sales in it for them

And then there was the wonderful story on Radio National's book show about Book Towns - places that set out to become beacons of light for bibliophiles by attracting lots of bookstores and related businesses to the town

A lot seem to be Hay on Wye wannabees. As far as Izzie is concerned - there is only ONE book town worth visiting ;) but since it's a bit difficult to get to by normal means of transport - looks like will have to make do with second best (Is wondering if we should include Britain on our next European tour just to visit Hay on Wye - and possibly Bletchley Park)

By then it was time to potter off to the ma's place for some gossip and bottle gobbling. Strange - 3 things in one day that make the serpent happy - Light Bubbles, books and a bottle with good company.

And tonight - got two more kitchen cupboards decluttered so feeling most accomplished indeed. Found the perfect rusty cast iron pot to serve as a cauldron substitute in our Hexen Ecke. Petunia actually has two REAL cauldrons in her garden and the Iz is most envious indeed.
