Strange Days
08/09/2007 10:49 pmIzzie's been such a nostalgic serpent lately. Been lurking a lot in Memory Lane and you know you've been there too long when you start reminiscing over things like exams.
Some bits of 2001 are almost as vivid as if they were yesterday and having a perfect match of days and dates certainly helps
Due to lack of suitable venues during the week, some mid term exams had to be held on Saturdays and Saturday 8th September was one of these
It was a bit of a disaster for most folks. Not only were the supervisors late to open the hall but they stuffed around with the sound system and produced the most appalling high pitched squealing noises. Not the nicest thing at the best of times but certainly not conducive to the already jittery nerves of many mathophobes out there.
They did give us extra time at the end but it could never make up for the the chaos it caused. Did eventually get into the swing of things but was most peeved indeed at the incompetence of the idiots running the show and resolved to put a complaint in writing about the whole sad saga
But a couple of days later stuff happened that really made a bunch of squealing speakers during a statistics exam look most insignificant indeed. Never did get around to putting in that complaint.
Maybe getting the result a week later of 38.5/40 had some influence too.
But six years later, cannot remember even the half of the stuff, only the start of a convoluted trail in search of a strange number that kept popping up in the most unlikely places. Not in that particular exam but some of the other statistics things. (Izzie was one of those sad creatures who used to read text books during the term breaks)
But for old times sake, was reading today a book borrowed from the local library at the time.
It was called "e - the story of a number" and the start of a squiggly journey along a most twisted spiral path.
It was sort of sweet reading and reminiscing while sitting on a bench next to a patch of Romanesco broccoli at City Farm
Tomorrow, will be off to Fremantle with the ma to visit the Open Day at the garden of one of the ABC presenters who is big into permaculture and organic gardening. Hoping to steal lots of ideas and sniff the roses. Even put a request in for the day off weeks ago in anticipation of all the green goodness
