Lurking in the Lair
12/01/2009 09:12 pmIzzie's slinking and lurking in Cyberia since the grand plans for a moonrise picnic got tossed out when discovering that it is first up and about at the ungodly hour of 9.30pm. Way too late for this serpent when it means waiting nearly 2 hours for the last bus at 11.30pm and then having to be back at work for 7 the next morning
Well - did get a bit of a good peek last night when it came up about 15 mins before finishing work. All big and fat and yellow and utterly gorgeous. Also got to follow the critter going down on the way to work this morning
Instead, just made the most of a sudden change in the weather from a sizzling 38 celsius down to less than 28. Slinked about in the garden watering the weeds, assessing the damage and finding a home for two baby macadamia seedlings along with a few whole nuts.
Got some organic almonds in the supermarket today. Not in the shells but still with the skins on. Here's hoping that they are still sproutable
Will soon be time to start planting cabbages, cauliflower and kale for winter. But will most likely wait for the new moon. Maybe the worst of the summer sizzle will be over by then
Reached the magic megawatt the Saturday before last but was at work and then at the ma's place so never got to see the nice new numbers do their thing. At this stage, only 20 kilowatts away from the magic megawatt of sunshine sold to the grid but that looks likely to be a Saturday again. Might just scrape Friday evening. Will get a bottle of champers to celebrate. Izzie uses so very little electricity. That's why the two dates are so very near each other.
Vernon and Petunia are also passing the odd subtle hint about the next invite for dinner so that may be a worthy cause for celebration
Intending to wait until the worst of the summer is over and with a bit of luck will have enough potatoes, basil, tomatoes and lettuce to make a harvest dinner
Will be a challenge to do a dinner while sticking to the new budget rules. But at least we got no shortage of recipe books for inspiration
