izmeina: (Don't panic)
It's been a sizzling 38 celsius today but strangely this serpent remains unfrazzled and not hassled. It does help firstly by slinking off to Freo by the sea which nearly always gets the afternoon sea breeze and the old lunatic asylum is always cooler than the surrounding areas. Must be all those old ghosts and Dementors cooling the place down
Tomorrow is going to be a sizzling 40 so will most likely potter off there again. Even closing up all the curtains and all windows and doors in the morning after opening them to let the night air in will probably not be particularly effective. The minimum temperature tonight will not drop below 24 so it will not do much good at all

Been much much better on the weather front than last year where there were a lot more 40s and many of them were icky and sticky

But it also helps to have tasty magical morsels to read and Izzie is presently in possession of a real gem. It is so so true that all you really need to be happy is something to be enthusiastic about. But when that thing links a bunch of seemingly disparate interests with a common golden thread, then it gets particularly inspiring and intriguing. There's a pattern appearing slowly and surely and it's an adventure to see each piece of the puzzle as it falls into place

Then there's the recent discovery of the bestest bottle shop ever and the imminent arrival of the second magical megawatt. Well - not that we've clocked up another one in less than a week but rather that last Saturday marked the first megawatt that the serpent's roof produced and tomorrow the amount that has been sold to the grid will click over to 1,000 kilowatts. The seventy or so in the difference has gotten used by the Izzie. Mainly to run the computer and keep our cheese nice and cold
Things look rather more grim on the water front since the beginning of the new year. Averaging almost one kilolitre per day since the start of the summer sizzle in the first week of this year. That's what happens when you haven't got a rainwater tank to top up the garden

The first serious victim of the sizzle is a big branch of an old woolybush that just snapped and fell over today. Can't quite work out if it was from white ants or lack of water. Bit of a bummer as it was so nicely blocking the nasty street lightseses.
A whole bunch of baby banksias are not looking too happy either. But will give them another four weeks before finally declaring them as dead

So here's Izzie sizzling while her European friends are freezing. Pity it's not possible to send over some sunshine. This serpent would certainly not miss 20 degrees or so and the garden would be grateful.
Two weeks and a day of the new year have gone by and Izzie is one very contented serpent
