A Culture Vulture
31/10/2013 11:35 pmThe serpent has been slacking on the squiggling front. Been a bit distracted of late. When not lurking on the Nano forums or the Coursera equivalent, been busy doing weekly maths assignments and stuff. The final exam is due on Sunday evening so between that and the annual adventure of nano noveling, will most likely not be posting much here during next month either
Will be pottering off to a writing picnic tomorrow evening after the 'day job' and the weekend will be a frenzy of festival going. Between the "Mardi Gras" parade, Day of the Dead festivities, Open House and an assortment of other events, will hardly be much time for serious squiggling. Will save all that for after dark. Until Sunday the maths exam gets first priority for online time since I know now from past experience that catching up will be quick
It will be interesting to see what difference the Snowflake plan makes to churning out the words at a rapid rate. There will be no excuse at all for writer's block
It's only last year that Dursleyville has taken to celebrating Halloween and the Day of the Dead in a grand fashion. Missed out on most of it due to the annual pilgrimage to the garden festival in Eden Vale. This year for the first time since 2006 will not be going down there for the annual spring garden festival which begins tomorrow. Sort of sad in a way as it has become such a ritual but a visit back in May sort of made up for it. And now there are just too many temptations and distractions in the city without needing to go south for inspiration
It will be strange to not spend several hours each day at a certain kitsch cafe just churning out the words on old fashioned paper. It is such an inspiring and spooky place
Finally made it to the art gallery's "Van Gogh, Dali and Beyond" art exhibition which has been in town since June. Was there on Wednesday and it is definitely worth another visit. There's something about visiting art galleries that is surprisingly tiring. It must be some sort of sensory overload. Could not quite get over the fact that for most of the afternoon I could have drooled over Van Gogh's olive trees without having a single soul to distract from the view. Of course it does help to time visits during off peak times but could not help thinking that anywhere else in the world there'd be a crowd of at least 50 people and you'd be lucky to even get a glimpse of the art in question
Had recently got a love letter from the library to pick up a book I'd requested. Had completely forgotten about it. The deadline was Monday or it would go to the next name on the list
It's "The Bone Season" by Samantha Shannon. A spooky Dystopian tale. Today was a most auspicious day to start reading. Will be most unlikely to get a renewal as there's probably a waiting list
It should prove to be most inspirational for the next few weeks. Yet another distraction to keep the lazy serpent from posting
