Stable Geniuses
02/06/2022 09:47 pmNow the honeymoon is over for the new Australian federal government after the election, there's a whole lot of shit to get cleaned up.
In a crazy bout of madness, Australia is so busy exporting gas overseas that there is a shortage of supply for the domestic market over east.
This is not the first time this has happened. I remember it from a few years ago but this time the Russian invasion of Ukraine has added more fuel to the fire.
Years ago the Western Australian government set up a percentage of gas to be kept for the local market. I think it might be 10%. The gas companies and their lobbyists fought tooth and nail to get rid of this provision. Luckily they did not succeed like they did over east.
It's a pity the government isn't so smart when it comes to iron ore and mining in general. Allowing 46,000 year old caves to be blown up with little more than a slap of a wet lettuce leave or giving permits to allow fertilizer or LNG plants to be built on the Burrup Peninsula which is a repository of rock art much older than the pyramids of Egypt. Such a long long coastline, there is no excuse for not insisting that the new factory find some other location.
Norway is much smarter with their natural resources. The idea of putting aside resources in the good times for when the inevitable rainy day arrives is just so so out of fashion these days.
I am so so glad that I made the most of the good times because it is definitely paying off now. Putting up solar panels 14 years ago and doing the giant home loan blitz where I was devoting 70% of my take home pay to paying off the Lair. That 2 years of living on the smell of an oily rag has paid off big time since then.
