28 Days and counting
24/05/2003 09:28 pmIckle Izzie has been so busy. Not only does she get to count beans but shuffle them too. After a quick snoop through the books last Thursday, realized that I had only 520 silver sickles to last till payday on Thursday. That would be perfectly OK if not for the minor detail of the 500 for my mortgage payments which are every second Wednesday.. and guess which Wednesday this one is going to be?
Not only that but the weather is gorgeous and there are five days left of my 'holidays' till going back to work on Wednesday. Well ..not really holidays.. a study break would be more like it. Researching the intellectual activities of the Dementors of Azkaban being one of the more important assignments ;)
So Friday was going to be a pity party for Izzie. Time to stay home and save the pennies instead of the usual Friday visit to St Brutus followed by a sunset on the beach. And of course nothing in the kitty for a decent bottle of red to bring to our St Brutus cheese and wine picnics. But I could console myself with a visit on Saturday instead and one itsie bitsie coffee.
But the weather was simply and utterly gorgeous on Friday morning. Far too nice for boring old books. Then Izzie has a brainwave.. should have done it ages ago. Will get my payment moved to Thursdays instead so it will be going out as my wages are coming in and I then get to spend what's left over instead of this horrid business of always having to be so damn careful to make sure the 500 is still there on the day before payday.
One free phone call was all that was needed and they could do it straight away! Izzie was ssssso relieved. Was almost like a stay of execution.
So looks like Wormtail was going to get his glass of red after all. Popped into the local bottle shop on the way back from the Min of Fin and was astonished by what I saw. Lots of wonderful little picnic bottles (375ml)of Penfolds Koonunga Hill for only 5 silver sickles each. Not bad when the full size bottles are normally 14 and very very rarely on special for 11. And picnic bottles are such handy sized things and are normally hardly ever available let alone on special. Greedy Izzie bought 8!
It would have been just so horrible to miss out on such a wonderful special.
So we got to go both Friday and Saturday to our favorite places and while sipping a glass of cabernet amusedly thinking... this time next month... in this very place and this very time... Izzie and Wormtail will be toasting to the Great White Witch and just about to read the very first sentence of "The Order of the Phoenix"
We will even get the folks in the museum to give the preciousssss the stamp of approval... a cute little rubber stamp with a picture of St Brutus on it. Of course THEY don't call it St Brutus but something infinitely more BORING and Dursleyish.
After a couple cabernets and chapters... next stop will be off on the Knight bus to the beach to have another picnic and watch the solstice sunset. And another toast of course....boy that 375ml has got to be savoured rather slowly to get through the day.
Oh and I forgot to mention... there will be lots of smirking and gloating to do. Izzie is a Slytherin after all and will make sure that on the day there is absolutely NO doubt about that whatsoever. I will even dust off my silver serpent 'choker' and ring especially for the occasion. The Green felt hat with the silver ribbon and the sticker I wear most of the time any way...But there are not too many citizens of Dursleyville who recognize the signs of serpentine grandeur.
I might even bring along some bags of Berttie Botts while I am waiting in the queue at the bookshop. I am still waiting to see who will have the best parties before putting my order in - which I still haven't done yet!
Izzie's only regret is having to read stuff in the next few weeks that has most certainly nothing to do with serpents, cauldrons, dragons or manticores... Was going to say Dementors... but on second thoughts... and I wonder do the three corporate curses count? (Legislation, taxation and liquidation)
