Izzie doesn't care much for silly quizzes even ones where she gets to lure the Potions Master into her lair. But this one... when I seen the answer....How could I possibly resist?
Well....why don't you just bring your pet viper down to Pruffie's cellar and take your pick. Chateau Cheval Noir 1947? Henschke Hill of Grace? Izzie will bring a bottle of Absinthe. We can have ourselves a Slytherin Suicide Party. On the other hand....if Iz switches Pruffie's copy of the Preciousssss and puts a Koran in its place....what would be her chances of slinking out of the cellar ever again?
Er....a nasty little green potion brewed from wormwood...especially popular in Beauxbatons territory and the drink of preference for Muggles who find concocting Snapies 'Draught of Sleeping Death' beyond their abilities.
Well...Izzie thinks it is also called absinthe in English. Used to be all the rage in the 1920's but since it had a reputation for causing bewilderment, confusion and addling of brains it is banned in many English speaking parts of the planet. Iz just happens to have lots of wormwood growing all over the place. gorgeous stuff. Wait....maybe 'Vermouth' is related. Must google it. Maybe they even have recipes.
mmm I think I like "Vermouth" if it is what I think it is. Yes, I am not an alcohol connosieur as you probably noticed :) My knowledge is very limited.
From http://www.absinth.com Absinthe is flavoured distilled liquor, emerald green in colour, turning to cloudy, opalescent white when mixed with water. It inspired many prominent artists, writers and poets. Just to name a few - Vincent Van Gogh, Oscar Wilde, Manet, Ernest Hemingway - in fact his masterpiece " For Whom The Bell Tolls " was written under the influence of "The Green Fairy". Absinthe was first produced commercially in 1797 by Henry-Louis Pernod, who purchased the formula from a French exile living in Switzerland.
Wormwood - Artemisia Absinthium is the chief flavouring ingredient, native to Europe and Asia.; other aromatic ingredients include aniseed, licorice, hyssop, fennel, angelica root, star aniseed... Wormwood is a long-lived plant, with greyish-green leaves and the flowers have a greenish-yellow tint, and like leaves give off a strong aromatic odor and are bitter to the taste. Thujone is a toxic chemical present in wormwood and has a similar molecular geometry with THC, the active chemical in cannabis.
