The Ministry of Misery
29/08/2003 11:53 pmIzzie has just spent the best part of the evening farting around with frames. One of the goblin assignments is to make a personal webpage. For the last week or so since they finally got around to fixing the student server so we can now actually test out what we are doing, I've been using this as a perfect excuse to lurk even more than usual in Cyberia.
Unfortunately the Goblins have sold their souls to the evil empire and expect everyone to use internet explorer and the html text editor that Iz likes to call Fuckpage.
There is a whole bunch of perfectly pointless things that we are REQUIRED to include like java scripts, frames and a number of other clutterbug bells and whistles.
Lucky the Cat let me know that my java script 'snakeflakes' were not working in her browser. They don't work in Netscape either. It will be only a matter of time that Netscape will not even be available here. At present you have to jump through about three hoops to get to it and all sorts of warnings about how 'unsafe' it is.
If they do get rid of it, will have to go to the ma's place where we have both Mozilla and Netscape. Iz much prefers Mozilla as Netscape has teeny weeny print and cluttter everywhere.
I really must not fall into the temptation of neglecting the other assignments that we have. Unlike those, the web pages are actually marked by the other students based on a couple of weeks availability and a class presentation. At first Iz thinks this is unfair but then again, the success of a website in real life is measured by how the surfers, users, customers or whatever evaluate it and not by some self appointed glitz and glamour design gurus.
Today was a simply gorgeous day. Apart from feeding time at the reptile house gawking at delicious Dolores (the frog that looks like a toad) devouring copious quantities of crunchy cockroaches, I also spent 3 whole hours sunning myself in the gorgeous grounds of St Brutus and getting a long overdue fix of Potter. Boy I was beginning to get withdrawal symptoms.
Unlike most folks, am still only on the second time around. Just now have got up to the wonderful chapter "The centaur and the sneak" where Harry is hauled up to the HM office. Oh I just love that scene. And of course the hankies were out during the visit to the closed ward at St Mungos.
Book Five was well on the way to being the Izzie favorite until just after the grand Exit of Fred and George. Once that silly son of Hagrid made his grand entry, it just seemed to go downhill after that.
Izzie is hoping for some inspiration from Dolores. A couple quotes from her would make a most wonderful "Mission Statement" I just love that speech she makes at the beginning of term. A perfect sample of Buzzword bingo if I have ever seen one.
I also saved my brand new copy of "Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy" especially for today. It really does remind me in many ways of JK Rowling's writing style..especially the wierd and wonderful names of the books and interesting creatures. Luna Lovegood seems like a character straight out of the 'Guide'
The Cat is doing a very very good job of corrupting ickle Iz.
Since I had council rates to pay last week and was very naughty and bought lots of those Lindt choccie bars, there is only five silver sickles that have got to last till payday on Wednesday. If I want a coffee it will have to be at home in the lair.
Maybe Iz might even get some housework done and cook some dinner. Does not happen much lately these days.
Cyberia is such a wonderful place to practise procrastination as an advanced art form. I am getting ssso good at it. Was supposed to have gone home more than two hours ago.....Bad Iz. But then again, will not be able to get near a computer again until Sunday evening. Just the excuse I need.
Now at least I can look forward to having got the worst bits out of the way and can plan evil colour schemes and memes for the various departments of the Ministry of Misery.
Suggestions are ever so welcome.

Date: 2003-08-30 12:18 pm (UTC)I particularly like the Impropability Drive, the Towel, the Cow at the Restaurant at the end of the universe, and of course, Ford Prefect. What is it about dodgy Ford cars and books I like?
Of course, Douggie Adams is one of my favourite authors. Pity he's dead.
I suppose he and JKR are the type of writer who I enjoy reading most - highly intelligent, with a wicked and surreal sense of humour. And the ability to come up with truly wonderful ideas - the aforementioned Impropability Drive, and silly robots....
