The new broom sweeps clean
23/11/2003 08:41 pmIckle Iz has had another interesting week. Oh it is so so wonderful not to have goblins to worry about and to read whatever I want.
But Izzie has got to be good. Will be off on the broomstick shortly because there is some sweeping and sorting to be done in the broom cupboards.
It has got to be done by 2 December because that is when Iz gets out the green and silver tinsel and Iz knows only too well from previous experience that if the paper jungle does not get sorted out in the first few weeks of freedom, it does not get sorted out at all.
Yesterday was a perfect day to potter off to St Brutus but had previous arrangements with Petunia to go to one of our favorite forms of entertainment -free wine tastings.
And anyway, since Iz was going there today, it really would be rather decadent - especially as I am supposed to be spending more time squiggling in Secret Diary Land rather than the little green book.
Well - the wine tasting was wickedly wonderful. There was about 14 different bottles to try and the Mistress of Ceremonies was not a tight arsed bitch like some who you would swear were pouring the stuff from their own personal private collections.
There was lots of cheese and nibblies too. Tuesday evening there is a champagne tasting in the local bottle shop around the corner from Petunia so Iz will be off there on her broomstick and staying the night at the ma's.(There is the minor inconvenience of work on Wednesday morning and the busses back to the lair are almost non existent)
They had the latest Taylors Clare Valley Shiraz for 13 silver sickles if you buy a dozen and a fat juicy magnum tossed in as a bonus. Just paid 15 the other day for a bottle of the stuff and thought that was good value. So we are getting a dozen between us. Six for Iz and six for the ma. At this rate that tax refund will be soon gone.
So sick and tired of pissy wishy washy watery thin reds that when I find a decent drop at the same price that one usually gets such insipid rubbish, it is temptation beyond endurance.
Everyone seems to have the best booze on special at Christmas time.
And the other Izzie indulgence last week was those Lindt choccie bars that were 20% off in one of the supermarkets. I would much rather pay $$2.50 for 100g of Lindt than the same price for 250g of Cadbury. It's quality that counts.
But part of the next 5 year plan is the nasty evil budget and Iz has to pull in that forked tongue and spend more on the lair and less on lunch.
The golden rule is to never ever slink down to the shops when starving.
While Iz still writes in her little black book, every single solitary silver sickle that she spends, have gotten a bit slack lately in adding up the totals and seeing which bits are wasteful and which indulgences give 102% satisfaction.
I guess that is the problem with goal setting. You get there by hard work, sacrifice, discipline and all those horrid boring things but having achieved the target, it is so so easy to slack off and slip back into bad habitsssss.
So I have now decided that I will take paying off the palace in the next five years as seriously as saving the deposit in the first place. (I had allowed three years for that and ended up in a position to buy after only 18 months)
