It's been a strange week in Izzieland. Saturday was sorting all that paper stuff and came across the Izzie time table for next semester with the Goblins. It's going to be very nasty. Not much moon watching for Iz since I will be working Wednesday evenings as well as Saturday to Monday evenings and there's also 3 hours of awful auditing on Thursday nights too. Turning up for classes at 8am Mondays and Wednesdays is also a nasty little twist and invasion of Izzie space. But since I got only 5 subjects left to choose from, switching and swapping like I did last year is getting more and more difficult. (Iz is supposed to be a good Goblin and spend a few hours every Tuesday reading those nasty auditing text books - so much for new year's resolutions!)

Iz was especially annoyed to be dumped with a whole pile of evening shifts for the next few weeks or so. Today I had off since I'd swapped with the Troll so she could have Saturday 27 Dec off to go to the airport and say good bye to the ma and pa trolls. Would have loved for her to do tomorrow for me but that is the first day of the new roster and swaps have to be kept within rosters for administrative reasons.
Iz is going to have to go online to get her fixes of moonshine since the local paper constantly stuffs up the dates. They said that the full moon is on Thursday and it turns out that it's tomorrow instead. Or maybe we are using different definitions. Last month they said it was Tuesday 9 when it was in fact Monday 8. Didn't matter then as I got to work early on the Monday when I usually work late but this time it's the other way around. Been dumped with a bunch of evening shifts and they start tomorrow so Iz will miss out. Tomorrow night sunset and moonrise are apparently within a few minutes of each other. Maybe the pedantic people have another definition of how to pick the date but as far as Iz is concerned - is always the one nearest sunset which is certainly not Thursday. Or maybe it all depends just where in the world you are.
The other nasty thing about evenings is that the Zoo opens till 7.30pm for all of January and Iz loves to go twice a week since the animals are so interesting in the evenings. But when you only have 2 free evenings a week, as compared to the usual 4 - then they just become too precioussss to spend all of them at the zoo. And on the subject of the Preciousssss - spending 3 hours at the movies while clock watching because I got to be at work for 3pm is also not Izzie's idea of fun. Would be a waste of a good movie and to go on one of only two days off would be a waste of those days. (Morning shifts are good because you finish at 1pm and still feel like you have the whole day left to do stuff)

So Iz decided tonight to visit the zoo and then go sit by the river and watch the moon. Slinked past the lions in the African safari - muttering -bloody show offs. Had a quick peek at the gorgeous baby rhino who just had her first birthday a couple of weeks ago and spent some time looking at the cheetah which is an infinitely cooler and classier kind of cat than those maned moggies up the path.
But only passed through the 'savannah' because it is the quickest path to the Izzie favorites - the Nocturnal house. This place is full of rats, bats, snakes and all sorts of creepy creatures - even a giant cockroach. The ghost bats are supposed to have had babies and Iz wanted to see because the last time they did, they were so utterly adorable. I mean even cuter than their parents.
Was quite cute to see three bats hanging from the rafters having a group hug. One did look a bit smaller than the others and since the babies were born more than four weeks ago, they just may have grown that fast.

The last stop before closing time was the 7pm reptile keeper talk. The delightfully evil Megan is back and was wondering where ickle Iz had disappeared to over the last 3 weeks.
So it was lovely to have my first pat a python for the year. Today it was the black headed python. Not as pretty as a boa constrictor but still quite cute.

Oh and the evil Izzie eye is slowly returning to its original colour. Iz encouraged all sorts of speculation among the house elves as to how I possibly got that eye into such a mess. Very lucky there was no lasting damage or side effects. But it did make me look even scarier than usual.
