Izzie is peeeeeved. Just spent the last 90 mins or so with stinking excel spreadsheets. Nasty little thingses they are. We hates them.
It is insufferable to be mucking with the things until 9 at night, not to even dream of 3 in the morning! Not that Iz can complain. I did after all volunteer to be treasurer at that public speaking group. We had our first meeting of the year today.
Fact is, no one else wants the job but really, should look on it as good practice for out in the big bad world of goblinses. But it's so so so annoying when the numbers don't always add up and ickle Iz has to go chasing the missing silver sickles.
Can hardly complain really. If I had got myself a decent notebook to write down attendances (so that I don't have to bring the official attendance book home too often) and had written a bit neater, then it wouldn't be half so difficult.
Well first step this year is to start a new page for attendance and introduce the novel concept of having the names in alphabetical order - same as my spreadsheets, so I dont' have to spend ages matching names and numbers. The Izzie eyes ain't up to that anymore.
Of course the best solution would be to input the stuff directly instead of having to devote a few hours to updating. Tried printing out a blank copy of the names and dates to tick them off directly but Izzie has got the Neville touch today and nothing is happening. But at least the worst of it is now out of the way. That leaves one outstanding major project which should have been done BEFORE the start of the new year.

Well. Izzie made those Cockroach Clusters and packed them carefully in a green box tied with a silver ribbon and dropped by work (its' the Izzie day off today) to give them to my favorite Middle-Earthling.
There were other choices to be made today. Never did get that thyroxine. Turns out that prescriptions are not valid if they are more than 12 months old. Bad Izzie hadn't been taking her pills. Not just mean but also careless.
So today's moral dilemma -what to do with the 20 silver sickles that have to last until payday on Wednesday? Apart from bread and milk and other boring stuff - it was either three or four coffees over the next few days - or else be 'grounded' for the rest of the week and see The Preciousssssss today! (If I had been able to get those pills - neither would have been an option)

So the Precioussssss it was. Now where can we begin? Izzie just loved it. Got all nostalgic for Middle Earth looking at that gorgeous scenery and was utterly enraptured at the wonderful start to the latest stage of the saga.
Strange - was always one of those books that I will get around to reading some day. The art work Iz has always found very intriguing. There is a misty dreamy otherworldly sort of feel about those pictures of the buildings - the towers, statues, Rivendell - everything. And the Movie seemed to transform the whole thing into 3D.
If Izzie put on her happy hat, her dominions would be something like Rohan. Hope I spelled that OK. It is very reminsicent to me of Mongolian horse riders on the steppes but living in houses rather than tents. Iz used to be utterly fascinated by Genghis Khan in her flobberworm days. Far more interested in them than the Roman empire which seemed to intrigue most others.

Iz did wonder what happened to the burning mills and the nasty creatures lurking in the Shire. But not having read the books, is relying totally on memories of the radio series which she will be peeking at again tonight - way back in Bree when the dark riders arrived for a drink of butterbeer or two;)
No Saruman or Wormtail...oopsie doopsie ..of course we meant Wormtongue!
Am I just bad at faces or is there some resemblance between Denethor and the the two Smeagols? Smeagol and Deagol were just so sweet. Sort of hobbitish but cuter. Oh and the slimy fisheses and Smeagol munching them raw was really rather revoltingly wonderful!

The whole thing was so reminsiscent of those good old fashioned bible movies. Why waste 2,000 years of free publicity. Not quite sure whether LOTR is supposed to be 50 years or 5,000 years?
Izzie would just love to trade in her broomstick for a Fell beast. Sort of like a cross between a vampire and a pterydactyl.
Gandalf was wonderful. Grima Wormtongue was surely lurking in the halls of Gondor. Now why didn't we see him? Was just so cool how Gandalf kept putting that wimpish sook in his place. Nice to see him get toasted in the end. And what a gorgeous son he had. Only a brainless spineless lump of excrement could have prefered that bastard Boromir over the other. Reminded me in some strange way of Cain and Abel. But don't make Iz choose between Faramir and Aragorn - We wants both. You can keep Elrond and Legolas. Sort of creepy and sneaky but not in the utterly adorable way that Smeagol was. Elrond was just ...errrrgh.
Iz was wondering what stuff is in the extended versions of the first two that was not in the normal cinema versions. Will certainly be waiting for the full length version of this one. Did not notice the time go by at all. There were a bit too many battle scenes for Iz - they do seem all the same after a while but there was more than enough of the Sneak to keep Iz ever so happy. Sort of lost interest when he departed with the Preciousssss. Lovie dovie marriages and happy ever after endings are not Izzie's thing at all at all.

Funny - such a cute touch - Frodo with his leather bound volume and quivering quill. Iz couldn't help but wish that there would be another instalment. But the Preciousss is gone and now we can only be grateful that there are still more Potters to look forward to.
There is just something so special about a grand epic adventure that goes on for hours and hours and hours. They dont' make them like that anymore.

MORE precious!

Karenlee is oh-so-glad the green one finally got a chance to see RotK and that she enjoyed it. You expressed curiosity about contents of the extended editions... Yesssss - there is even more unexplored precious for you to enjoy. Here a brief wrap of the extra scenes (as I remember them) in TTT:

Extended opening, in which the hobbits scale a cliff face using the rope Galadriel gave Sam.

More friction between the Uruk-Hai and the Orcs as they transport Merry and Pippin back to Isengard, which better sets up the fight over food that takes place later. Merry rouses briefly from unconscious state when he’s being carried and tells Pippin he was just ‘faking’.

More scenes of Saruman breeding his army, creating better pacing leading to the invasion of Rohan

Great scene in which Eomer finds Theodred (Theodens son) mortally wounded on riverside battlefield.

Additional scenes with Merry and Pippin, including extensions to existing Treebeard scenes and the Ent Draught sequence, in which the hobbits grow from drinking the water. In another scene, Treebeard’s poetry sends the hobbits to sleep.

Theodreds funeral scene, with Eowyn singing a lament.

A scene in stables of Rohan in which we are introduced to Aragorn’s horse Brego, who we learn was Theodred’s horse. Aragorn calms the wild and rearing animal by speaking Elvish to it. Eowyn is impressed.

Scene en-route to Helms Deep where everyone is resting and Eowyn serves Aragorn a bowl of evil-looking stew. During conversation she discovers Aragon is one of the few remaining Duneadén – blessed with long life. He tells her he is 78 years old. He once fought with her grandfather.

More political background of the union of the Two Towers, and addition Saruman musings (including about this ‘Ranger from the North) who Gandalf seems to think is Isulder’s heir.

A fantastic flashback to the circumstances surrounding Boromir being sent to Rivendell for the Council of Elrond, taking place during the re-taking of Osgiliath by the Gondorian army. It shows the great affection between Boromir and Faramir, and the problems both have with their father. Denethor shows up, clearly proud as shit of Boromir, and contemptuous of Faramir (to Boromir’s impatience and anger). It provides an excellent background to understanding why Faramir took Frodo and Sam to Osgiliath (a major departure from the books!)

Just before the Ents storming of Isengard, the Huorns (killer trees) mobilise and leave to attend to business elsewhere; they reappear at Helms Deep to destroy the Uruk-Hai as they flee.

Lots more short bits towards the end: Merry and Pippin find a larder at Isengard, including two barrels of pipe-weed; a funny scene in which Gimli and Legolas compare their scores after the battle of Helms Deep; Frodo, Sam and Gollum are shown the way out of Osgiliath by Faramir, who threatens Gollum; there’s even a brief moment in which Sam and Gollum appear to make peace.

Along with these major additions, many more scenes are subtly extended to give more information or reinforce themes already present.

8. Scene where Boromir is training Merry and Pippin to fight is slightly longer. Aragorn gets involved.

9. Caradhras scene is longer. Boromir indicates that they can't stay there long because Merry and Pippin are freezing. They are shown to be in bad shape.

10. Right before they get to Moria, Gandalf speaks to Frodo, implying that he knows his impending fate and warning him vaguely about evil within the fellowship.

12. In Moria, Gandalf mentions how the wealth of the dwarves was in mithril.

13. During the battle with the cave troll, Aragorn and Boromir pull on its chain together.

14. The grieving scene after Gandalf's fall is slightly longer.

- A bow for Legolas

20. She asks what Gimli would like. He says he simply wants to look at her once more. Then, embarrassed, he mentions there is something else. He later tells Legolas he asked for one of her hair, she gave him three.

21. She has a discussion with Aragorn about the choice he has to make, whether to rise above all his ancestors or fall with them.

22. Legolas mentions the great properties of lembas. Pippin and Merry pig out on it and Pippin farts.

23. On the way to Rauros, Gollum is seen (again) tracking the group.

24. Sam argues with Frodo to eat or sleep, but Frodo won't.

25. There is an argument between Aragorn and Boromir. The latter wants to go to Gondor and regroup, while Aragorn says "I will not lead the Ring within a hundred leagues of your city". Boromir berates him for avoiding who and what he is.

26. Final fight with the orcs is slightly longer. The great shot where Legolas shoots three arrows in a row is now a great shot where Legolas shoots six arrows.

27. Boromir's death scene is a little longer. Aragorn has more to say.
