Izzie was recently moaning about the miserable day at St Salazars last Wednesday. Well yesterday was brilliant beyond belief. Of course it would have been SSSO much nicer to spend a sunny Saturday at St Brutus sipping coffee and squiggling in the little green book - but that does not pay the rent. Was expecting to be working with the Troll from Middle Earth but not only does Iz discover that she changed shifts and I got the quirky quick and very cute Leslie who is one of a handful of Potterholics in mundane Muggle land but then discovers that the Troll is departing in less than two weeks time.
We had a wonderful fun evening and even Creepy Caley was on the best of behavior. As Iz likes to say - Leslie has well and truly kissed the Blarney stone. We have a handful of staff who have a way about them - they could get a rabbi to eat a pork chop and Leslie is one of them.
This morning, I was working with the Troll but she was in a good mood and we had a good morning and Iz had an interesting afternoon to look forward to. The local council run a festival which includes a wine and food tasting. Used to be free but for the last 3 years or so costs a ridiculous ten silver sickles. But it has become an Izzie ritual. In 2001 was there with Petunia and got so drunk that I was sick. Was extremely embarassing. The following year after seeing the green light and narrowly surviving a close encounter with the dreaded Dementors - had lots of fun and wine and cheese and did not get drunk at all. That time (2002)had no sorrows to drown and spent half the time squiggling in the little green book all sorts of ideas and inspirations and realized what a difference a bit of green light could make. Iz no longer had any need to drown her sorrows because they had all suddenly disapparated in a flash of green light and instead spent the year in amazed wonder at her calm cool responses to various stimuli that the previous year had resulted in claustrophobia, panic attacks and all sorts of nasty horrid signs of utter and absolute despair and misery. It almost got to the stage that stressful events were an occasion of happiness because my response was so utterly and absolutely different and a constant reminder of how a moment of sudden insight could make such and incredible difference.

This year Iz paid her ten silver sickles which was really not good value for money but almost as a tribute to the memory of two years ago when I had the most wonderful time. It has become one of the Izzie rituals indelibly marked by the events of Jan /Feb 2002 and as such - we doesn't mind the price.

But some old traits do not die. The wine tasting was from 5-8pm and every year gets bigger and busier. Iz was organized and brought her own nibblies because the samples are so pissy and the queues so long.
It was so busy that at 6,30 or so we sat down for a breather and listened to the latest Radio National 'Spirit of things' feature about conspiracy theories followed by an interesting story concerning the 'Christian Identity' movement in the USA. We must post it some time. Was a repeat of last year's program and Iz was ever so amused to hear about the descendents of Eve and the Serpent (Yesssssss. You know who you are if you are reading this;))

Petunia appeared at 7pm - in the Scrooge tradition - she had slinked in free. The event was officially 5-8pm so of course around 8 ish or so after slinking around the bottlies and skulking all the free samples, was time to put on the old Izzie vulture hat where all sorts of nibblies were for sale at half price or less. Iz pottered off with two wheels of camembert and brie for $$10 each instead of the usual $$30 and some cheese platters for $$5 where originally one would have paid that price just for the cheddar by itself. We also got the most scrumpdidliumptious almond and chickpea dip for half price which tasted just like felafel but you could put it on your bread like butter.

But the big event of today - it was exactly 6 years ago on Sunday 22 February 1998 when Iz had three weeks holidays that Petunia seen a most interesting advert for a 3 bedroomed house with a garden for the princely sum of $$115,000 in the next suburb to hers (would have cost at least twice the price there) Iz peeked at the map and thinks - that's a pretty central location - near the busses, up the road from a shopping centre and the Min of Fin and not too far from either job - Iz had two jobs in those days. Why not take a peek - no harm at all. Did not realize that Izzie's life was about to change that very day. The place was gorgeous and we kept thinking the price must have been a mistake. Iz is a bit of a procrastinator - liked it but thought - oh can come back and look next week. But that day Iz says to herself - how will you feel ten years from now if you don't attempt to snatch this luscious little lair. Well - the rest is history.
Hard to believe it is six whole years ago now. With a bit of luck - in another four years or so will have the whole thing as good as paid off. Iz is so lucky to have found a place where we could get rid of the green little 1957 VW beetle because we did not need wheels any more because it was walking or bus distance to everything that the ickle Iz needed at the time.
Next time that 22 February is a Sunday, will be in 2009 and with a bit of luck Iz will be toasting to having made the final house payments to the goblins in Gringotts. It will be all MINE and Iz will have so much more disposable income or time or a mixture of both. Lucky I did get the place then because to get it now would have cost more than twice as much. Buying one's own home on house elf wages has become much much harder in the last two years or so. Iz has been one lucky lucky serpent. And next week am finally getting those bags of sheep shit and mushroom compost so I can finally grow something more exciting than frangipani or cacti. There are oodles of fat juicy grapes at the moment that Iz munches when sitting outside - but they don't count because like the two orange trees, the previous owners had planted them

Hey izmeina, i sometimes listen to al: 8 as well... is a new cd coming out soon?
The Passion of The Christ (http://www.ThePassionOfTheChrist.com) is in theaters soon - this week on Wednesday.. what do you think about this movie? I'm going to see it for sure - the trailers (http://www.thepassion.tv) were enough to convince me. I read somewhere that it's the widest opening ever for a subtitled movie; I have a feeling subtitles won't detract from the full effect of this movie though. After looking at the trailers which have no subtitles or english at all, it was reinforced for me that lack of spoken english in this film won't hurt one bit. To sum up my impression of The Passion: it's a work of art.
Good Website (http://www.passion-movie.com)
Another fascinating aspect to this movie is all the controversy that has been generated about it.
Some people, not really representative of Jewish people, but rather self appointed Jewish spokespeople, such as Abraham Foxman from the Anti-Defamation League, seem to have been attempting to denounce this film for months as being anti-Semitic. The news reported that they even stole the script last year! But here's what some Jews say (Jews who don't make it their job to tear apart other people): by Rabbi Daniel Lapin.

Nice to see some people speaking rationally.

So what do you think of all this?

Soon we will see. Soon we will know. But until then - Izzie - faithful Christian creature that she is - will follow the teaching of the One True Church of Christ - the only review worth 30 silver sickles - Betty Bowers of The Landover Baptist Church (http://www.bettybowers.com/melgibsonpassion.html) (Where the unsaved are unwelcome)
