Grammar Goblins
10/04/2004 09:47 pmIzzie can never understand why 'The Subjunctive" always gets such a bad press and the mere mention of it causes eyes to glaze over in boredom.
For several miserable months of the Izzie existence - had to make do without this useful invention (naively considering it to be an optional extra only necessary for advanced learners of foreign languages ) Izzie has unconditionally revised that opinion and learned the enormous errors of her ways. For those few months Iz felt truly less than human. Mind you - there is a blurry sort of spot in Izzie's green skull where she is not quite sure of the distinctions between conditional and subjunctive and puts them all together in the indispensable 'What if?' category.
If I were you I would read this
If Izzie weren't so damned skint broke she would have been drinking wine instead of grape juice on Good Friday and be at home right now sitting under the stars with a bottlie instead of rabbiting on inanely about grammatical niceties. Must be suffering withdrawal symptoms.
