izmeina: smiling serpent (zmeya)

Iz was feeling peeved, cranky and ever so grumpy today. The big nasty accounting assignment which Iz has barely looked at is looming larger and larger.

Izzie was a good goblin and started searching for snippets and stuff as soon as we got the unit outlines with the evil essay title
"Greater decision usefulness can be achieved by moving to a more measurement oriented approach to financial accounting"

Exciting stuff. No? But reality soon got in the way and the important gave way to the urgent. Those weekly assignments that have to be typed but which our tutor hasn't collected even once yet plus the group assignment soon grabbed greater and greater chunks of the Izzie existence.
But at least with individual assignments one has total responsibility and total control. Iz might only have until 27 April to get this thing signed, sealed and delivered but she is answerable to no one but herself and gets to choose just how much of her preciousss time gets wasted on this drivel.
Was dreading the damn thing. They want lots and lots of references and expect us goblin wannabees to be drooling all day over esoteric journals.

But after about twenty minutes of putting off procrastination and finally getting down to it, the Iz stumbled on a veritable gold mine of suitable stuff. Unfortunately it turned out to be unprintable PDF files. Iz hates PDF. It looks nice but it does not cut and paste and do stuff the way Iz is used to with MS Word. And these particular pages it had no intention of printing - some prohibition and copyright waffle we guess. Well Google was no use at all for getting useful articles but it did come in ever so handy for finding an MS Word friendly version of those articles.
So was able to cut and paste links to about 12 useful references that are all now in one place with their very own portkeys. Printed out the stuff that seemed most important. And if the Izzie eyes arent' deceiving her, looks like these references are already written in a form compatible to Harvard referencing or whatever it's called so only a bit of cutting and pasting is required for the Izzie list of sources.
But Iz is so relieved. Had never expected to get so much good stuff so quickly. Was expecting to waste 3-4 days finding it before even getting around to reading it and then the dreaded essay itself.
So this Goblin will be eternally grateful to the wonderful Google and Mr Tim Berner Lees who made it all possible and saved Izzie days of drudgery in the journal shelves searching for needles in the proverbial haystack - and having to fight with a few hundred or so other students over the one tatty copy of the journal in question. (Assuming it hadn't been stolen or had half the pages torn out) Now a zillion people can all look at the same thing at once. That is just so cool and so utterly amazing. Iz is old enough to remember the bad old days. In the future we won't say BC and AD but more likely BWWW and AWWW.
Iz sometimes wonders - imagine if it was Bill Gates instead who invented the Internet!

Other than that, poked the paws into a most gorgeous teddy bear shop today. Seen in the window the most utterly adorable purple and grey ceramic dragons produced by a guy with the cutest name. Pottery dragons by "Harry the Potter" Some of them had swords and shields and others were lounging around or curled up happily reading enormous tomes of fairy tales.
He even had a witch's castle with turrets that looked like purple witches hats. But most absolutely gorgeous of all were another bunch of dragons made of material with sequins, feathers and all sorts of saucy accessories.
Iz just could not resist. Bad Izzie. How could I possibly say no to an adorable green dragon?
Then there was all the Easter eggs to gobble too. Lots of half price Lindt eggs. Lucky we got paid extra for the public holidays for Easter. After having less than 20 silver sickles to last for the week before payday - Iz has managed to get through 6 times as much in two days. Lucky there is no big electricity, water or books bills like last time.
So now Iz gets to go home and spend the weekend reading accounting journals and abstracts. At least some of it is about Enron. That always amuses the Izzie.

So looking forward to June after the exams when I can finally get time to read some real literature and not nasty boring Goblin porn. Was hoping to do Sistermagpie's "10 books that influenced me most" meme but that will have to wait for some other day.
