Iz has a simple question for all the nerds out there. Why does it take 2 hours to tweek and fart around with LJ style 2 and still not get what you want when to do the same thing in UJ style 2 only takes about ten minutes and actually WORKS. Iz was dumb enough to believe that they were the same thing and it would be that easy here too.
There I got 25 instead of 20 entries on the recent page AND nice green comments but here no matter what I do - still stuck with 20 on both recent and friends and nasty old blue comments pages. Iz gets an unticked box and a tiny 25 on the screen but when it gets saved nothing happens and the next attempt to edit shows the original setting of 20 entries.
If 'gabble with goblins' has got to go but Iz still ends up stuck with the totally color unco-ordinated old blue comments pages - just does not seem to be a point to it.
Some of the colours have an empty box and tiny print and others have a big box with 'over ride default' ticked and a 'choose' button on the right. Sometimes the choose button shows a color chart that you click OK for and sometimes it just does nothing and goes back to previous pages.
Iz is totally bewildered, annoyed and confused.

I had the same problem with using the wizard... the changes didn't stick, or changing one page erased changes made on another page (for example: changing colors worked, then changing comments text worked but erased the color change). Eventually it worked out after an ungodly amount of reloads and cookie cleaning. But at the end I abandoned the wizard and now using only the advanced customization where you can specify the variables manually, all in one place.

Iz finds it strange that there was absolutely no problems over at UJ - not that anyone goes there these days - but it's great for tweeking and testing. Well there is one peculiar problem - the comment pages are all green but it serves up a whole pile of gobblydegook when you try post a comment instead of the usual 'anonymous, logged in user...etc but it's easy guess what is supposed to be in each spot unless you are a total newbie.
Oh and how do you go about scraping clean the cookie trays? And I guess the advanced thingie is for paid users and nerds only?

Dunno, your comments-posting screen looks fine to me... To erase cookies in IE, I think it's internet options -> privacy and security (if not, then "advanced options"). In Mozilla, edit -> preferences -> privacy and security -> cookies -> manage stored cookies.

Erm, you're right about the advanced thingie... which reminds me I have an LJ coupon which burns my pocket. Or rather, had. Check your userinfo page :) (logout and login to activate the changes)
Now you can make a good use of these new options.

OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOh. Izzie takes the Portkey to Secret Diary Land - resolutely deciding to dump the newfangled thingies and go back to the old gabbling with goblinses. And what does she see but green stripes where the nasty blue bits used to be! Amazed and astonished. But then she sees that the Cat has left a calling card!
Oh do tell Iz about these mysterious couponses! But Iz will be good. Iz will not try out the Andrie layout which she likes best of all - (and yours if you can change the colours to green) and will not immediately go googling for more snakie piccies.
Izzie will be a good goblin and instead type out the silly summary page for that assignment which she should have done yesterday if not spending all that time advancing the noble art of procrastination!

You can change the colors of every layout - some of them even have several default palettes. But for me the most interesting is to add extra stuff, like things on my sidebar (banners, search, the doll piccie). It's done in the sources (maybe there's a more elegant way but I didn't find it). To access the sources of the layout, go to advanced customization -> your layers, and create a top-level layer, it will be empty. Copy/paste the .bml source of the layer you want to adopt (the source taken from advanced customization -> public layers -> click on the layer you want, then "download") and then you have your local copy of the layout which you can mess up as much as you want ! I'm really curious what you can do with the layout as you have so much more imagination than me :)
