Masters of War
25/04/2004 10:51 pmIz gets pretty peeved at folks who are so good at sending other people's sons to wars and wringing their hands in feigned sorrow at their suffering and that of their families and making pompous speeches about sacrifice and honour in these tough times while never ever standing in harm's way themselves.
Iz also notices that the more jingoistic, militaristic, and gung ho that the leadership gets, the more likely they are to treat veterans from previous wars like total shit. Iz sees some of these veterans in the nursing home where she works and it is not a pretty sight. Some of them still have nightmares or wander around at night searching for 'the enemy'.
If you are going to send some one to war - realise that your government will be up for widow's pensions or disability pensions for at least 50 years. If you are not prepared to pay for that - not some petty pittance but index linked so these soldiers don't have to starve for risking their lives for your pathetic jingoistic ego then don't expect these poor suckers and their families for generations to pay the cost for many years just so you can have your two minutes of glory and a clap on the back from King George for being such a good little deputy sheriff.
Lest we forget
