Lazy Izzie had today off work. It was a gorgeoussss sunny day. Very crisp and crunchy - in fact just a bit too crisp and crunchy.
On Sunday Iz went to an expo from one of the Ministry's competitors which is a much older and prettier place than this one but the Min is more convenient for the Iz.
Unlike any of the other universities in Dursleyville, their distinguishing feature is the sheer greenness of it all. There is lots of gorgeous gardens and pedestrian pathways but very very few roads for Suburban Assault Vehicles and other wheeled monsters. And as the tour guide told us "Apart from the parking nazis, it is really a very friendly place"

Izzie always associates the place with lots of festival and culture vulture events. The best of these was the utterly amazing and sort of satanic "Mephistomania" from a French street theatre group. Iz also remembers as well as if was yesterday, sitting in front of the pond near the gorgeous limestone halls and tower shortly after sunset one December day reading about the adventures of a certain Marge Dursley and the mad mob on the Knight Bus.
The other book that Iz spent lots of time reading in the various gardens and benches was the rather spooky and strange "Dead Zone" by Stephen King.

Apart from being utterly exhausted by pottering up 16 flights of stairs on the tower tour and admiring the gorgeous views, the big catch of the day was in a visit to the School of Natural Sciences where they had lots of very pretty rocks and fossils. Iz definitely must go back and take a long and leisurely peek at all those pretty gems, shells and other ancient artefacts. Bestest of all, they were giving away GREEN bags. Not only were they a nice shade of green but also had a very big picture of a nautilus shell on them. Just the thing to match the rest of the curly Izzie accessories.

Izzie went straight from this place to work and afer that it was a walk to the ma's place. Because it made more sense to visit St Brutus and go moon watching directly from the ma's place as it is directly on the bus line, Iz decided to bring a change of clothes and some picnic thingies.
The Cat can probably guess why the Izzie did not get up until 11am this morning. Originally intended to leave the ma's place at 1pm so that there would be lots of time to pop into the shops and get some wine and cheese before spending the rest of the afternoon lurking in the courtyard of Izzie's favorite lunatic asylum.

Iz was sitting outside lurking in the sun around 12.30 or so when the ma comes out with a plate of crackers and cheese, a bottle and glasses. Now was Izzie going to say no to such temptation as that?
So we ended up catching the bus at 2.30 which is the usual time Iz gets it on Fridays after coming home from classes and having lunch and other such stuff.
So after acquiring the necessary nibblies, was still 90 minutes left for lurking in the garden of arcane delights before pottering off at 5pm when they lock the gates and then heading on over to the usual moon watching spot. It was getting a bit chilly by then as the sun was well and truly waning by 5.30 or so. There was no clouds so it looked like perfect weather for werewolves.
Iz got to the top of the hill and is looking in the general area directly opposite the sun which had just set and waiting for the critter to poke its head up over the horizon. Slowly the house and city lights start coming on and Iz thinks - oh bugger. you stupid bugger with those nasty big orange lights - turn them off. You are ruining the view. Well - this big orange light did not turn itself off but just got bigger and bigger and Iz soon realize it was the Big Cheese itself that she was looking at. Of course, once again was slightly out with the general direction to be looking in. But it was so astonishing how bright orange it was. Izzie only remembers seeing it looking like that only once before.
Iz and her rat had a toast to the moon and some moonshine nibblies and stayed there gazing at it for about an hour or so before heading off down to get the bus back to the Min. For some reason, while the hill is the best spot to catch it rising, it always looks so much smaller there than when you go down the bottom of the hill and to the end of the street. Tomorrow Iz will go moonwatching a bit nearer to home overlooking the city and river. It is usually bigger there and at this time of year will hopefully be rising over the river with the city lights as a very pretty backdrop.

One more thing. Every time that Iz goes moon watching she is reminded of Sara the Rogue Badger and wonders what ever happened to her. Seems to have left Secret Diary Land a long long time ago and has not popped by to say hello. Iz does hope that she is OK and no longer bothers with Cyberia because real life is so fun and exciting.
