Dinner at the Dursleys

Izzie wanted to write a rather long post about doom and gloom but has gotten distracted and must now potter off from the Ministry on her broomstick. Just suffice to say that Iz finds the media coverage of the Jakarta bomb to be quite disgusting. Such a petty, provincial and parochial place this has become since the Lying Rodent has been in power and we are adopting the worst of the US traits without tempering them with the best of what the US has to offer. Basically, apart from the five year old girl who was badly injured (and her mother who was killed) in the bombing, there has been NO mention at all of any of the other victims. Nine people were murdered (Two may have been the bombers themselves) and hundreds were injured but because NONE of them were Australians, they were somehow considered not really worthy of preciousssss space in the Australian media. There have been no stories about these people's lives and families like we had for the Beslan school tragedy, Bali and the New York terrorist attacks on the Twin Towers.
Some of these people were security guards and gardeners working for the embassy. Even they were not considered significant enough to mention, never mind the fact that they were killed while doing their work on behalf of the Australian Government.
This is so much in contrast to the weeks and weeks of coverage of the victims after the Bali bombings. Of course, those bombs were much bigger and killed many more people but that is not the only explanation. And there was NEVER a link drawn between the suffering of those burns victims and their families and how then Australia decided to go along and join the US in inflicting similar horrific injuries on equally innocent civilians who had no connection at all to the terrible carnage in New York or Bali. And unlike here, the chances of Iraqis getting proper medical treatment for their injuries in half decent hospitals is pretty remote. They probably don't even have access to clean drinking water and reliable electricity supplies.
While we have heard endless commentary about the death toll of US soldiers reaching 1000 this week in Iraq, no one seems to know or care in the west about the Iraqis killed or injured. We don't even know the numbers, let alone their names.
Will be going to the ma's place as usual tomorrow after a nice sunny day lounging around at St Brutus. They dropped by the Izzie Lair this morning and mentioned in passing that they are getting wooden floorboards put in the room that used to contain the Izzie serpent snooze basket and the Portal to Cyberia. So it seems likely that the Izzie Portkey will not be in a usable state tomorrow evening so there will be no slinking and lurking or chats with catses. :(
And the Iz has had to hide her copy of "The Seven Mysteries" so she will not yield to temptation like she did on Wednesday (Staying up until 2 in the morning perusing this fascinating tome) and will spend her energies counting coffee beans like she was supposed to be doing this evening.
Ooops. Forgot to mention that dearest Aunt Marge (whose real name is Margaret) will be turning up at the Dursleys on 23 September so they are all busy getting everything nice, neat and most Dursleyish indeed. It is just as well that the Iz has her own place to escape their evil influences.
Just before that - next Saturday in fact, the Iz is inviting her parents over for dinner so she will have to spend the next week or so being somewhat more domesticated than usual and trying on her Stepford hat and apron!
