Moonshine Madness

izmeinaIzzie is feeling utterly decadent. After numerous rants in various places about Hot cross buns appearing in shops in the first week of January or Easter eggs on the shelves before Lent has even started, Izzie is glad that some folks take this sort of stuff rather seriously. Like Today is one of the big Chinese Moon festivals and you can only get moon cakes for a few weeks or so around the time of the festival.
So after several years of just never quite getting around to it, Iz finally indulged and bought some of these rather decadent and expensive little buggers. After a little moonshine picnic with our favorite rat, the glass of red, crackers, cheese and the usual, Iz finally decided to tasty her Moonish morsels - sitting by the river of course in the moonlight - about an hour or so after the moon rising.
Most tasty indeed it was too. Not as sickly sweet as the Iz had expected. It's made with sugar, flour, peanut oil and lotus paste and Izzie decides not to go for the 'kosher' version but rather to get the one with the egg in the middle. After all - it's kind of cute to have a baby moon in a mooncake but a round ball of cheese might have been more appropriate for the Iz and her 'party' guest
It tasted sort of similar to those Dutch almond fingers or rounds thingies and was a nice new ritual to add to the Izzie list. So curious to know what other special foods you folks have for special occasions and particularly when it concerns things where it is considered in absolute bad taste to eat these things at any other time of year.
Oh and Iz will get back to it later. Was walking to the bus stop from our evening adventures and who does Izzie meet but her Aunt Marge (and significant other) neither of who bear any resemblence at all to the other Aunt Marge that we all know and love. The hubbie in particular is a tree hugger and star gazer. Moon watching with a bottle of wine is his idea of a perfect way to spend the evening!
Izzie has given them the lowdown on the tourist tricks and traps and the stuff definitely worth seeing like the wildflower festival that will be starting this Thursday. (Just the excuse Izzie needs for another picnic!)
