Waves of wickedness
31/12/2004 12:38 amIzzie wants to have a little rant about the revolting assortment of trolls to be found over at the Yahoo boards
Izzie does not know anyone personally who was affected. She does know some one from the Maldives whose family has turned out to be safe and well and there is one girl at work who only just came back from a holiday in Phuket two weeks ago. But there was a very sad story in the paper here about a local woman who is originally from a fishing village near Sumatra. She lives here with her husband and children but her village of origin among others has totally disappeared without any trace. Fifty of her relatives including her parents and brothers and sisters and their children are missing without trace.
When you live in a graveyard, you cannot weep for everyone but that does not mean that you go pissing on the headstones either. Iz hopes that most of these creatures on the Yahoo boards are a sad and pathetic bunch of trolls who say nasty things to generate a bit of excitement in their otherwise insignificant existence but is afraid that some of these people are really serious. Blaming God or George Bush for such a disaster is really clutching at straws in an attempt to find meaning in a random event. But saying that this is punishment from God for the infidel Muslims - well. And that is just the tip of the iceberg too. It gets even meaner and much nastier.
Iz cannot help but think of the children who survive who because of the crazy way that nature has programmed the human species, will blame themselves for their parents deaths or vice versa. I guess it's the same sort of magical thinking and need to have control that makes folks come up with those very nasty hairbrained conspiracy theories in the desperate need to cling on to their beliefs that it really is a just world out there.

Just coincidence that the Indian Ocean earthquake/tsunami of 2004, and the Bam, Iran earthquake of 2003 BOTH happened on CHRISTMAS???
God is telling the world WHICH religion is true!
Christ is the Messiah! He is coming soon, and boy is he pissed!"
(It's scary how many people actually believe this sort of stuff and who certainly make no pretence of politeness about it)

Sob stories galore here. Someone I knew died in Phuket - or at least is assumed to be dead. They haven't found her body.
In any case, I never knew Christmas was December 26th.
Nasty green lightseses
Well. Iz offers two explanations - stupidity or arrogance. Either this jerk really did think that these events happened on Christmas Day or the more likely possibility that it was still Christmas Day in the United States when they got reported over there. And as we all know - American Time (never mind that they must have at least 3 zones too) is Universal Time
But what really upsets the Iz, noxious and all as this post was, it is the essence of enlightenment thinking in comparison to others - such as mesage 26024 (not posting the direct link as the URL for this message board is so ridiculously long and you cannot edit comments if it does not copy and paste correctly)
The attitude "Why care - they are not Americans/Christians/Whites whatever? " is so prevalent on these boards that it is positively scary. So so few of the posters seem capable of any empathy at all. And worst of all - most of these sorts are probably jumping up and down with delight at the thought that their government and not natural forces are causing just this sort of chaos in Iraq
