The Departure of Dolores

izmeinaThe Izzie slinks into the nasty netcafe after having just washed the sunset. Will soon be going home to drink the very last in the Izzie stash of inky reds acquired in a liquor store closing down sale way back in October 2001 where tasty stuff like Wynn's Cabernet Sauvignon was being got rid of for 16 silver sickles instead of the usual 30.
Then it's time to finally take down those Christmas decorations too.
The Iz is rather peeved at once again getting another nasty nine hour shift at work today. What a waste of a beautiful sunny crisp and crunchy day. Most mild indeed for this time of year.
Today was D-Day at work. Back in November, Dolores announced to all the little house elves that she would be moving on to greener pastures and leaving at the beginning of the new year. Iz never got to hear the news first hand but it was the real thing and not yet another of those infamous rumours.
Damn good news thinks the Iz since she was never one of dearest Dolores' number one fans. But joy turned to consternation on hearing that the starting day for the new Boss would be Monday 7th February. The Seventh of February is an extremely unauspicious date as far as the Izzie is concerned for meeting new bosses. Two of the nastiest of the species the Iz ever met are both associated with that particular date. So Iz had expectations of yet another blond blue eyed aryan bitch - like the latest one from Middle Earth that the Iz was bitching about recently. In all these cases, the Iz knew instantly - on first glance that these creatures were utterly ruthless and uber creepy.
But oh. What a pleasant surprise. Got to see the new boss this morning at the official farewell morning tea for the old one. Not only is there a not a blond hair to be seen but on first glance Iz thinks - she looks rather cute and friendly and does not look at all like one of the usual coffin nails addicts. Not only was the vibe not blindingly bad but was actually positive.
Turns out that first impressions about her being a non-smoker were correct. This could prove to be most interesting as she is well and truly in a minority. She also has a rather soft voice which seems to have no undertones of sarcasm or bitter twistedness of any variety.
Soon we will see. Soon we will know. Iz does get the impression that she will be the watch and wait sort of manager rather than the sort who will immediately feel the need to assert her authority and to feel threatened by all staff who have been there much longer than her as so many bosses seem to be. Unlike the last one, she does not seem the sort with the need to prove anything to anyone. Iz can only hope her intuitions are correct.
Will be interesting to see how long it will take - if it ever happens - for the usual string of memos and petty rules to start appearing.
And Izzie wonders about what impressions the staff will have in the new place where dearest Dolores starts her new boss job. Assuming that is what she will be doing.
