Izzie has about two hours left on the Dodo dinosaur dial up account which means that for the next 3 days or so we will be pestered with evil messages about our account running out. Today it let us sneak past and slink about online and would pop up its ugly head only when we click on the LJ Friends page. But we are sure it will expand its evil domain until nearly nothing is reachable. So apologies in advance if Izzie is even more tardy than usual in posting replies to comments and such. Unlike last time, forewarned is forearmed and we are not going to get in a tizzy when the inevitable happens and the little bugger won't let us lurk.

Was supposed to be up bright and early today in order to go to the grower's market and buy wholegrain flour and stuff as well as bentonite clay for our new vegie patch. But after a busy night being the hostess with the mostess - the ma and pa were over for dinner last night - staying in bed snoozing was a more attractive option. So the garden will just have to wait

It turned out better than expected - and as usual made far too many munchies so will not have to cook for another week. Still got lots of home made hummous and pesto left over as well as the bread we made yesterday. The onion soup all got eaten and the Izzie was pleased that the pa thought it was chicken soup. (Silly Izzie threw out the water we cooked the chickpeas in when apparently that sort of thing is perfect for stock - will know better next time)
Made potatoe wedges too from scratch - didn't get a single thing out of a packet. Drizzled them with olive oil and various herbs and spices and stuck them in the oven. Not as crunchy as the deep fried variety but also not as greasy.

Was supposed to make baked apples stuffed with raisins and spices but in the end had no time or space in the oven so ended up giving the ingredients to the ma to bring home as we would never use them up here in time

So, it turned out to be a good evening and apart from the constant comments about how fat and frumpy this serpent is, they were reasonably well behaved and not constantly finding fault with everything. In fact, they were probably shocked to discover that the Izzie can still actually cook. Their neighbours who often invite them over to dinner - she gets nearly everything out of a packet so stuff cooked from scratch that had a bit of flavour was a bit of a pleasant change we guess

It was actually quite enjoyable spending most of the afternoon in the Lair pottering about, chopping, snipping, sniffing and stirring. And once again proved beyond all doubt that the most utterly indispensable kitchen gadget apart from a very sharp knife is the wickedly wonderful Kitchen Wand (those Bamix gadgets)
