Sheikhs on a plane

izmeina(Yesss. We know that Pakistanis aren't Arabs but the Izzie just couldn't resist)
This has been the story of the last day or two. Even the bombing of Beirut back to the Stone Age got relegated to the inside pages
At first was amazed that it was possible to pack an explosive punch with some ickle bottles of glug - and wondering how in hell you'd set the damned thing off - unless of course we are talking of the bottle loads of wannabee Molotov Cocktails on just about every flight from Oz.
It takes a terrorist threat for folks to finally question the absolute insanity of duty free booze on board. It's always seemed to be such a stupid idea to add all the extra weight (and resultant extra fuel costs) of highly flammable and dangerous substances when it's so so much easier to let people buy their duty free booze when they arrive at the other end. (Been doing that for years in Oz and it's such a simple and economically efficient idea)
Not sure if Petunia got caught up in the queues as she was wearing her grandma hat in Amsterdam last time we heard of her whereabouts.
But the Izzie will be slinking off to Europe in September and we can be sure that the tighter controls on hand held luggage will be still in force by then. Leaving the Pipsqueak at home was not such a problem since feeding it on a different electricity grid posed a bit of a problem but bookless on long haul flights is a most horrid prospect indeed
Poor buggers in Apple - the PR folks must be working overtime or maybe they can put a positive spin on the multiple uses of those pretty little iPods. We are sure the icon mob in LJ are already hard at work on new parodies of those ubiquitous adverts.
Yesss. The Golden Age of cheap and convenient air travel is well and truly over. Unfortunately, exploding planes are the stuff that Al Qaida and friendses dreams are made of. Find a few pissed off Pakistanis, feed their discontent and if you can get them on the planes with their bombs, like we've seen with the attacks in 2001 - it's a mass murder movie made on the cheap that will get countless reruns during prime time TV.
The airport security need 1,000 pairs of eyes and need to get it right all the time. The bombers only have to get it right once to declare victory
