Toys for the Preciousss
31/08/2006 01:35 pmIzzie's been slinking in the Angel's Waffle Cafe for the last hour or so snatching podcasts and getting very adventurous by even getting a few software updates.
What is really astonishing - no spinning beachballs of doom, no dummy spits - just plain cruising.
Was almost tempted to take the opportunity to restore the Preciousss to its previous status before its biggest hissy fit ever in early July. Had to reinstall the operating system and a bunch of things have never been quite right since.
But since it's necessary to restart after updating, decides not to take the chance and just snatch a couple of the software updates that don't require restarting. Most of those were iTunes and pod thingies. Was around 90mb in total and took less than an hour to get them all which was much quicker than expected.
Will probably try out MSN Messenger rather than the very sucky Microsoft Messenger (which seems to be the older version) and if we have no luck with that, will just have to come back next week and grab the things we left today
So. Most pleased indeed with our progress today. It's a rainy grey day so did not feel like we are wasting hours of preciousss sunshine
Went to the library on Tuesday to return a stack of books and renew two others. Never did get around to reading the most fascinating looking "The Pearly Gates of Cyberspace" by Margaret Wertheim. Did renew "Freakonomics" which is just wonderful. Was just about to walk out the door when what does we spy on one of the display stands but a travel guide for Amsterdam. Since that's where the Izzie will be this time next month, what a perfect opportunity to find out what's worth seeing BEFORE getting there rather than after leaving. It's not actually in Amsterdam itself but there's no way the Iz could visit Holland without peeking in the Escher musuem. Shame that we'd never even thought of it until finding it mentioned in this book. The VOC museum is also high on our list too as well as searching out a companion for Wormtail from the same place our wicked little sister got the utterly adorable Felinda - a very cool and snarky office Cat.

Funny - it's only now - 3 weeks before our departure date that we are finally getting in the festive spirit. Will be so much fun snooping through these two books - one for Holland and the other specifically for Amsterdam.
Still not yet planned the grand treck from Emden to Salzburg. Will certainly try stay in Hamelin (not sure if Wormtail likes that idea)
Unfortunately, our favorite city in D'land - Lubeck - is just a bit too much off the beaten track. But being a Hansestadt - should be possible to find some Dutch equivalents - fairy tale houses with gorgeous gables and lots of teenie weenie alleyways.
