Busy Izzie

izmeinaThis lazy serpent is supposed to be baking up a batch of lebkuchen with all those tasty ingredients acquired on our overseas adventures but has instead settled for making a cauldron of Cockroach Clusters. Very simple and quick to make but the main problem is that the ingredients are so very expensive. Slivered almonds are not cheap at the best of times but especially expensive when you have to resort to getting them from the supermarket instead of the usual Greek Grocery Store from Heaven (Silly serpent - had a seniors moment when in Freo and forgot to get some)
But it's all for a good cause. Yet another rat is leaving the sinking ship. Not as many as in Dolores's day but still a fair few. This one - Deirdre - is a beautiful soul. Probably too nice and soft for her own good. Us house elves really do appreciate the registered nurses who are nice to us and they are sadly few and far between as management has a bad habit of being especially nasty and disapproving of those who are seen to treat us as anything approaching human. But Deirdre is one of those few. She got a big beautiful bunch of flowers from the kitchen elves on Saturday and we'll all be organizing a big munchie fest for her last shift tomorrow evening. So Izzie continues the tradition of a carton of cockroaches as a goodbye present.
The other thing to keep us busy is the invasion of little antsie creatures during our absence. They've taken up abode in the Library which used to be a carport and was converted by the previous owners into an extra living room.
The ant busters man came on Thursday to do a quick inspection and says that the sneaky little termites are probably feasting and sleeping behind the plasterboard of the wall adjoining the neighbours. So - as well as adding to the holes drilled all around the house, he will need to do them all around the edge of the concrete slab in this room too which means that the Izzie is going to have to get a lot of precious posessions out of the way. Just the excuse needed for a grand decluttering binge.
So, we arranged a date on the phone today which will be Friday 8th December so that should give enough time to get it all done without getting all in a tizzie or having the Dursleys come over to assist. While they are well meaning and all that, the last thing we need is to have the place invaded by two human white ants.
Still considering our strategy for dealing with the Privet Drive pests. It's got to the stage now that every second sentence contains the F word. It's almost like being back at Dudley's place - the only difference being that at least the ma and pa still have the manners not to try pat the python's pot belly every time it waddles past. (Yesss - we know the Izzie is fat and really should part with that pot belly for the sake of our health - but being constantly being reminded of it at every opportunity and being given the impression that we are nothing but a lump of fat and the rest of us may as well not even exist - we guess - after having 7 fat free weeks overseas has made it all the more noticeable and annoying)
Like - we could continue believing their constant carping and undermining (like we did for last 30 plus years or so - a most stupid and destructive strategy indeed) ignore them - like we'd been doing recently or go on the offensive and give them a taste of their own medicine. Like instead of letting them always define the terms of conversations which always comes back to the theme of fat fugly Izzie - we could start carping about their various faults - snobbery, control freakery and superficiality being rather high on the list.
Not being the proud mother of monsters ourself - will never get to experience the joy of harassing our own kids about their endless faults or for that matter being offered a rather large list of our own by them
