It's been a glorious day in Izzieland. It always helps not to be going to work to make a day more fun and certainly when it is a crisp crunchy sunny day but not a sizzling 40 celsius like it was for 3 days last week. But tomorrow will be back up in the 38 plus range.
It also helps when it's pay day so it's not as necessary to count the silver sickles. Not that the Izzie is usually reckless but it's nice to be able to indulge now and again

So. Off to the usual lurking grounds today. Felt chirpy and cheery which was a good start to the day. First stop was the bottle shop and the supermarket to get some picnic munchies
Then off to the weekly artists market in search of Judi - the bookbinding lady who makes all sorts of pretty bookses and boxes.
Like the last two weeks, she was not there but there was another stall where a woman was selling leather bags, wallets, purses and things. She also had a big box of scraps. Resisted the temptation last week. No no no. You got a bag of bear bits upstairs. No buying until you first check those. So the Izzie was good and having discovered than only one of these bits was big enough to cover an A6 book - and only just - did not feel too bad getting some bits there this week. She did have some lovely purple and green stuff but they were really enormous and expensive - like using a sledgehammer to kill a mosquito. But did get a nice black piece which was perfect in size and a greyish brown one too.
They are both pigskin so definitely not kosher. In theory - no leather should be kosher as far as the Izzie is concerned. But in reality, while not being a carnivorous serpent, the Izzie has no problem with leather as long the animal is killed for food and the leather is a byproduct. Killing creatures just for their skin and not for food - as in the case of snakies or most fur is just plain damn unnecessary thinks the Izzie.

Next stop was munchies at The Juicy Beetroot followed by a visit to our favorite ex lunatic asylum. Peeked at the newspapers to see the time of moonrise. Figured it would be after 7.15pm like yesterday but before sunset at 8.20pm - probably just before 8pm or so.
Thanks to damned daylight saving, the days of going to Memorial Hill with 360 degree views of the horizon are well and truly over. For those folks who watch the sun or moon rather than the clock, it seriously sucks. They've tweeked the time so that sunset and moonrise is one hour later now but the public transport timetables have been left untouched. If the Izzie misses our second connecting bus at 9.30pm, we then have to wait until 11.30 for the next and last one of the day.
While where the Izzie lives, there's a reasonable view to the western horizon within walking distance, the same cannot be said for the east so basically watching moonrises remains on hold until the return to real time in March when sunset should be just over an hour earlier even by daylight saving time.

Now the old time of 7pm would have been no problem at all - would leave plenty of time to get the 7.45 bus, 8pm is a different matter. Decided to return home before 8pm and look for some local hill. Established beyond all possible doubt that there really is no good local spot facing east. Did get to see a big fat juicy orange moon once it came up but is just not the same as spotting it on the horizon.

So we spent the afternoon sitting in a gorgeous garden with a little picnic, squiggling in the little green book and pasting pretty pictures in another. And then an hour or so reading the original where we photocopied the piccies from in the first place.
Was going to get some fresh yeast and organic stone ground flour from one of the greenie shops but decided that the Izzie is carting around enough bags today and will get our stuff in the city instead some time tomorrow morning

But now it's time to slink outside to listen to Late Night Live and to watch the moon which should be well and truly within view of the Lair by now.

Forgot to mention - got a letter this week from the Izzie sister. Among other things, thanked the serpent for all the gorgeous books and prezzies that we'd bought for our ickle nieciekins. She said that it was rather noticeable that there were Moons in all of them (as well as a menagerie of mammoths, cats or spiderses in most) and that now little Orla points at big bright round things and says "Man in the moon" She was already obsessed with anything round that looked like a ball so we guess it was no surprise that this was the first thing she spotted in the books.
Yesss. Evil Izzie has such an insidious influence on young things.

Sounds like you had a great day, except for missing the moon rise.
Why is a pleasant easygoing lifestyle not commensurate with earning lots of money so we could have an even more pleasant time.

Saw this posted in the heckler today -

Give me your luxury and wealth, and keep the sea change

I couldn't agree more with the writer. *g*

The serpent heart so so bleeds for these poor unfortunate beings.
Yessss. It seems the alternatives are lots of money but no time or lots of time but no money. Compromise is not possible.
izzie sometimes wonders if part of the reason for our procrastination in goblin matters is the unwillingness to sacrifice 30 hours of work per week at house elf wages for 60 plus earning lots but with no time to enjoy it.
At present - simple serpent that the Izzie is - got most of the things we need to be content except the lack of respect and total contempt for house elves by management. With a patch of green to call our own and half a dozen library cards, most needs are cared for and even most wants too except for the one which we share with you - the desire to do lots and lots of travelling. Not in total decadence like in 5 star hotels and first class flights but also no cattle class and back packing hostels either
