Well - it is a big deal if you are overextended and enslaved to the mortgage goblins but also exceedingly entertaining for those of us who don't have alzheimers
The conflict between the letter of the law and the spirit - particularly in relation to non-core election promises is proving to be most amusing indeed
Not sure if you could call it Rat Whistle politics but the Lying Rodent personally was very crafty and cunning in his choice of words back in the lead up to the 2004 election. Always specifically SAYING that 'interest rates would always be lower than under Labour government '(something ingeniously unprovable) but doing it in such a manner that the less pernickity and pedantic voters would interpret this as a promise to keep interest rates low - a promise that the Rat knows is not in his power to deliver but many borrowers were desperate to believe as they'd gotten themselves in waaay too deep in debt

So getting the result he wanted based on the latter interpretation, now that rates have risen 5 times since that election, the Rat is resorting to hiding behind the letter of the law and even blaming the states for the recent rise and using tax payers money to make adverts saying so. Talk about having it both ways
