The first week of the serpent's holidays has finished. Two more to go. Been a cranky grumpy old serpent for most of it. It was only yesterday that the worm finally turned. Been up and down like a yo-yo before then with mood swings and such.

Now that an unexpected and most unwelcome visitor has finally departed, maybe life in the Lair can get back to the usual abnormal. Apart from the interesting interview on the radio with Lisa Gerrard, the other happy occasion was a trip to the zoo. Must be nearly two months since our last visit.
Lots new in the snakepit. The baby radiated tortoises are as tiny as ever and a very pretty diamond python has a new home there. But not all good news. Last time - was very upset and disappointed to see dearest Dolores absent from the assortment of splendid green tree frogs. She was like the only rooster in the hen house - a hideous glow in the dark green compared her small dark and handsome boyfriends. She was also twice as fat as them - not surprising since she managed to grab most of the flies and cockroaches at feeding time
The staff called her Jabba (like that critter in Star Wars) but Dolores was a much more suitable title.
But yesterday, not only was she missing but all her fellas too. The exhibit was empty with the pond and plants all gone and just a sign apologizing for any disappointment caused.

There were no staff or volunteers around to ask about their fate. Three of them are now over in the wetlands area but that leaves at least seven unaccounted for

Was then time to visit the Aussie bushwalk - especially the echidnas and wombats. The Echidnas have had a baby but the little critter was in hiding.

There's also a video of the little critter but Izzie cannot get it to play on her windoze free Preciousss

The wombats were wobbling about but those cranky but very cute Tasmanian devils were nowhere to be seen. The wombats had moved into their real estate.Just hoping that they have not caught that awful disease that is decimating so many of the darlings over east. So so much has happened in only two months or less. Used to visit the zoo a lot - about once a fortnight when we were getting those 5-9 shifts but lately not getting many of them and been too busy with other things - usually on the garden front

All the straw has now been tossed around or built into a wall for the newest veggie patch. Planted two very special pumpkin seeds in there on Sunday along with "Riesentraube" tomatoes.
Also got a new baby bay laurel last Wednesday. Will need to find a spot for the little critter.

But the biggest thing on the green front - those solar panels. Been procrastinating with the order form that arrived last Tuesday. But decided to bite the bullet and actually drop into the shop itself tomorrow instead of using snail mail. Izzie never needs an excuse to lurk around Fremantle. The Solar Shop just happens to have its HQ just around the corner from the cemetery.
So tomorrow is D-Day. Decided to go for 16 60 watt panels which will have an out of pocket cost of just over 6,000 silver sickles. Plus there's also nearly 300 to get one of those special electricity meters which can go backwards.
So will drop by with the contract there tomorrow and pay the 1,000 deposit. Will probably take 6-8 weeks to get the paperwork done. Can't start on the installation until the government rebate has been approved. So hopefully might just get our own private power plant just in time for the summer solstice.

Already been drooling over at the gorgeous green rainwater tanks over at City Farm. That will be the next grand project for the greening of the Lair.
