The Silver Serpent Snack Box

Izzie is sitting upstairs sizzling. It got to a stinking 42.9 celsius today and was not too far off it yesterday. The 3 days from Christmas Eve to Boxing Day are the hottest ever on record here with an average maximum of 40 something
So basically the weather stuffed up what should have been the bestest Christmas for Izzie in a long long time
Firstly was the present we got exactly one month before the big day - A Rodent Free Christmas.
Then there was the opening of the new rail line to Mandurah on Sunday. Not that Izzie ever goes there - that was last in December 2001. But the big thing is a new bunch of feeder bus lines running to one of the main stations. Even on public holiday the new buses are running every 30 minutes until 8.30pm and it's less than five minutes walk to the bus stop.
But the biggest and best surprise came after arriving back to the Lair on Christmas Eve. It had cooled down pleasantly after one hellishly hot afternoon. First thing Izzie noticed was that the broomstick had been moved from its usual location. And then going inside - was a strange white hat where no hat should be. But it was slinking into the kitchen that was the source of the biggest surprise of all
There was a big silver box with a green ribbon. A brand new fridge freezer!
Of course the Izzie will not be turning on the switch until New Years' Day - got to make a proper ritual of it.
But we did snatch the big green Slytherin fridge magnet from our old 1950s Kelvinator Clunker (those big chunky ones that look just like juke boxes) and gave it pride of place right in the middle of the new one. With the green ribbons and the silver background, it looks just so seriously snaky.
Didn't go to the ma's place until 1pm on Christmas Day itself with the bags of goodies which seemed so itsie bitsie in comparison to the Dursley's decadence
Such a bummer the sucky weather. Was getting all nostalgic for the lovely 2001 Christmas spent there - being a Tuesday like this one. That one was a very civilized 25 celsius and that's what made all the difference
Even with air conditioning is still pretty nasty and soul sapping. So not much eating got done but lots of drinking and snoozing.
It was most amusing. The ma was saying yesterday that she came up with the idea for the fridge about a month ago and was thinking that the old bomber must be gobbling electricity and it's really not very green to be producing all those greenhouse gases
This is getting scarily spooky. The ma knows nothing about Izzie taking part in that environmental survey and audit the other week and certainly not about the roof full of solar panels which are now about 6 weeks away
Will be slinking over to Petunia's place tonight on that brand new shiny 100 bus and this time will not have to worry about going to bed early to be up in time for work at 7am or any time
But first there's weeds to water - and assessment of the damage after the last 3 days of hellish weather
Another bright little spark on the Christmas prezzie front is a summer season of "Yes, Minister" Due to copyright restrictions the ABC cannot provide podcasts or streaming but there is a bright and shiny and totally evil Ministry Website

Date: 2007-12-27 12:44 pm (UTC)It got to a stinking sizzling 44 plus yesterday! That's the hottest it's ever been since the Izzie arrived some 14 years ago.
But there's more of the same forecast for New Year's Day too. Not amused at all. A week in Antarctica is beginning to sound seriously attractive. See it now before it's all melted
Did it feel any different this year - being rat free and all?

Date: 2007-12-27 12:30 pm (UTC)But the worst of all - it was deliberately lit. Those buggers when caught should be dropped from a helicopter right into the middle of the very next fire. Fighting fires is a bad job at the best of time - and most of these folks are volunteers - but when it's 44 celsius everywhere- it seriously sucks.
And apparently there's more evilness on the way - a 35 for New Years' Eve, a 37 for New Years Day and what's peeving the Izzie most of all - a stinking evil 39 for 2nd January - the sixth anniversary to the very day of the Izzie serpentine incarnation.
